Super slow servers and slightly more expensive. They used to have a nice ham to carve fresh prosciutto in the middle of the dining space. But food overall was only so-so. I believe they're closed now, I think, I passed by here and the place was boarded up?
Located in Restaurant Row of the theatre district. The service is slow and not quite attentive. They do offer the pre-fixed course menu.
Best deal in Hell's Kitchen. We liked Capri so much we ate there twice in one week.
My spouse and I spent 6 days in Midtown Manhattan in early October. We were referred to this place by my niece who was performing in the nearby Theatre District.
The place was remodeled earlier this year, which accounts for the one reviewer that thought it was closed. Interior is tasteful and slightly Tuscan-style rustic.
We found service to be attentive without being intrusive or pushy. We just had to look like we needed something and wait staff just appeared. You can actually have a conversation in this place!
Our first visit we opted for the three course prix fixe menu at $25 per person. Portions were just right and entrees quite hot out of the kitchen. Nice dessert selections also. You'll get an authentic tiramasu, laced with a little liqueur. Wine selections are reasonable and the house wines quite a good value at $8 per glass.
The second visit that week we ordered off the menu. My spouse opted for the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and I had one of that night's specials, braised lamb shanks. My spouse purred through her entree stopping just short of licking the sauce off the plate. My lamb shanks were meaty and falling-off-the-bone tender. Chose the side dish risotto which complemented the lamb's richness perfectly.
Is the place perfect? No, closed Mondays but they are reasonable, the food is solidly prepared and the staff friendly and attentive. This is a no-hassle NYC experience.
Earlier in the week we ate at Becco down the street (see review). Skip that trendy place and come here. We've adopted Capri as our must-visit place on the next trip to Manhattan.
**UPDATED: I just went to this restaurant with my parents. I think there is new management now. Food is still fantastic. Get the chicken marsala. But those looking for the cute "feel like I'm at grandma's" atmosphere… it's gone. 🙁 so sad.

This is one of the best Italian Restaurants in NY. Yes, it is just a block from the Times Square theater district, but it is definitely a gem. You walk down a small set of stairs and into a dimly lit restaurant that is cozy but intimate. There is seating for both dates and group dinners.
The best part is the old women who is the waitress and server. She is like a grandmother to everyone who enters the door. She wants to make sure everyone is taken care of and that they have a lot to eat. (FYI, you will probably be pulled into buying dessert, wine, coffee…. because she is a good talker. haha. But it's worth it.) As advice, the meals are huge, so you can share and it's perfect. The prices are a little expensive and range from $15-35/per person…. but the experience is one you won't forget. I keep coming back and just charging the credit card for my over priced meal. It's worth every cent.
It was ok, but nothing special. We were looking for a quick pre-theatre meal…we initially wanted to go to Becco but the wait was too long. We wound up here since they had a reasonably priced 3-course menu at $25.
The food was not bad, it was alright but it not really memorable. Service was quick and efficient, which was good to get us out in time for the show, and the old lady was pretty nice.
Since I had a limited amount of time in NY (and only so many meals!), I wish I had a chance to go somewhere more authentic instead (this seemed a bit touristy like other places on restaurant row). At least it wasn't a chain, and the prices are affordable.
We knew we wanted Italian but being out-of-towners, didn't have a clue where to go. We happened upon this charming spot only a five-minute walk from our hotel, and lucked out. The food is authentic Italian at a reasonable price. The place had a very home-y feel to it. I particularly enjoyed the application of patterned tiles on every conceivable surface.
Obligatory Title Pun: Isle of CAPRI (Say it fast!)
Menu Readability: A lot of options presented in tiny sans-serif. Nothing special.
Need to mention: The prix-fixe menu is expansive. You have a lot to choose from.
What this place teaches me about myself: I'm very sensitive to proper application of patterned tiles. Perhaps too sensitive.
We were a group of four people. We ordered two dinners. The waitress asked us to order more than two meals or she will not take the order?! I told her that we are not that hungry and we don't eat that much. She looked at me in dismay and said" it doesn't matter" then her manager or boss came along and said that their menu states that we have to order 15$ per person as minimum. With the appetizer( clams), the two dinners and the wine we were already over 100$. That was really bad business. We canceled the order and left. I hav't tried the food but I wouldn't expect
the food to be better than who serves it. I would give them no stars but i have to mark something. Peace
This Italian restaurant makes me want to live in New York City forever, even during its harsh winters.
After walking up and down the block trying to figure out what to eat and dodging the eager hostesses/hosts, we finally walked down the stairs to a mysterious looking restaurant, that resembled something like grandma's cottage.
It was mysterious — we were intrigued.
Once we walked in, an Italian woman greeted us. She was very nice and very welcoming — like a nice Italian aunt I've never had.
The menu had a lot of great choices..my boyfriend and I had the mozarella caprese to start with, and the cheese was very fresh. I had the polletto (chicken) with whole wheat pasta, and the chicken was so juicy and tender. It was the best chicken I've ever had. My boyfriend had the pork chop, and it was super juicy. Italians really know how to cook pork chops — his' was very tender, cooked perfectly, and succulent.
We had a couple glasses of Riesling and it was a perfect complement to our entrees. I ordered a Croft '99 porto (very heavy, slightly sweet), to go along with my chicken and it was heaven. I'm ecclectic when choosing drinks and dinner.
Dessert was biscotti and ice cream.
Service was excellent. Food was generous and delicious. I envy New Yorkers..here in SF, we have great Italian cuisine in North Beach, but it's often packed as many tourists crowd the area. I had the best time in NYC, and this place is definitely a restaurant worth going to. It is authentic, very cozy and romantic, close to many bars, in the theater district, and hardly any tourists came here (they were all at the Applebees in Time Square).
