One of the best pizzeria's I have ever been too hands down. DELICIOUS
This is my favorite, local pizzeria and go to for authentic Italian-American food. It is well priced, clean, family owned and operated, always busy, and always offers good service. Never in the 20-ish or more years of eating at Captain's have I ever had bad or unfriendly service, or bad food either. Captain's offers take out with seating like traditional pizzerias, delivery, or sit down table service at the back of the pizzeria. It is very causal. The pizza is always tasty, fresh, and well made – the slices are large – not average, and there is a variety of toppings and types like chicken parm, salad, eggplant, and white. They offer the staple Italian entrees, and their sauce (or gravy depending on where you come from) is tasty like grandma's. The restaurant part does serve alcohol, but there is not actual bar, and choices are limited. I do wish it was open later. Overall, Captain's is a Morris Park essential.
I'll raise them one star. I like the buffalo chicken slices. The chicken rolls are really good and the grilled chicken salads are great. The owner is kinda stingy and not too friendly. The older son is super laid back and friendly. The younger son is polite but less friendly. I've eaten here dozens of times but have never seen the back room lol.
My boyfriend and I ordered take out here the other night.
I was pretty pleased with everything other then our items that had ground beef in it. I do not know what but we seemed to think the beef tasted weird. All the chicken and calamari dishes were yummy. But the riagtoni bolenges tasted funny…. as did the meatballs.
This is my go-to take out place for pizza, they definitely deliver the goods.
The pizza is the real deal – very authentic; if you're looking for classic Bronx pizza you'll find it here. The calzones are also delicious – both the meat and the cheese ones bring me right back to my childhood; their sausage and pepper roll is also great. For non-pizza, my go-to is the chicken capricciosa; they fry the cutlet perfectly and it has a good cheese/chicken/greens balance. The Captain's Salad is also a good choice. Portions are large and everything always tastes fresh. I usually order take-out but they have a dining room in the back for sit-down. I've only eaten in-house once or twice and I have no complaints.
The Bronx, especially Morris Park, has a lot to offer for pizza choices, and this is definitely one of the better places.
