Cara Mia Restaurant

“Don't be fooled by the location or the size of this hidden gem in Queens.”

“My family has been coming here forever, always a great meal with huge portions.”

“Best fried calamari hands down, but be careful – between that and the bread (which is fresh baked and SO sinfully good) you can get too full to eat your entrée.”

  1. really good italian american food.  recommend reservation as wait can be long.  pretty solid menu w/standard stuff and they recently renovated to be more upscale.  the wait staff is always entertaining and food is consistent so give it a try.

  2. The place simply oozes with grandmas love. From the decor to the wait staff, everything feels like you just sat down in grandmas kitchen for a fresh home cooked meal.

The place was relatively quite when we came in Saturday afternoon. Had no trouble getting seated and attended to.

They start you off with complementary bread and butter which I recommend you astray from because their portion sizes are huge. No reason to fill yourself up on carbs.

They have a prefixed pre-dinner menu which includes salad, soup, a choice of entree (we went with the chicken Parmesan), ice cream and cup of coffee for only $23. And they are full portions, so be warned to bring an empty stomach to the table.

We paired that off with a order of baked clams (dozen for $14). Only criticism, clams were a little chewy. Not exactly the texture I was hoping for when I sunk my teeth in today. But the presentation and sauce were just fantastic. I wish I had some of that bread to dip into the sauce. We also ordered linguine with white clam sauce. They somewhat overdid with the wine and after a few minutes the noodles felt drenched and lost most of its texture and taste.

The meal was definitely affordable. Total (with tip) came out to under $70. But honestly there was enough food there to feed four people.

  3. had the pleasure of eating at cara mia for a work christmas party – despite a limited party menu, i still found it to be an outstanding experience…caesar salad was one of the best i've ever tasted, penne ala vodka was quite good, and eggplant rollatini was superb…very friendly and accommodating staff, despite a small dining room our group of 30 was very well taken care of…overall a great experience & a place i'm looking forward to trying again for a regular meal

  4. How else do you get ready for Passover?  By going to your favorite Italian restaurant, of course.  So off we went last Thursday and, once again, Cara Mia did not disappoint!  Whole baked clams – AWESOME.  Scungilli over spinach – AWESOME.

Cara Mia continues to be our favorite Italian restaurant.  Hmmm, how should we break Passover?

  5. Don't be fooled by the location or the size of this hidden gem in Queens. Old school Italian restaurant,  huge servings and everything was fantastic.

All staff was attentive and polite, but be ready to wait if you don't have a reservation.

    We will be back!

  6. Pretty decent Italian restaurant. I've tried many dishes here and most were really good. The Chicken or Veal Parmesan being my favorites. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was their fried calamari. I could be wrong, but on the two occasions I tried it, it tasted frozen rather than fresh. Overall, I think they have decent food though and I would definitely return. If not for the calamari, I'd have given them that 5th star.

  7. This is my second time ordering calamari from this place and it does not disappoint! From the outside, the restaurant does not look very appealing. The inside of the restaurant is very small and intimate. The food however is always fresh and tasty. I can't wait to come back and order more stuff on the menu!!
