Carpe Donut NYC

“Buying a hot apple cider and one fluffy hot donut from here reminds me so much of going to the cider mills in fall in the midwest…”

“But all that uncalled for annoyance drained away with one bite into the ridiculously fluffy and cinnamon-y doughnut.”

“I really wish this truck would just be at this location permanently – I would really come every day to get a dozen for myself.”

  1. I was disappointed by the cider – it tasted good but was borderline cold; lukewarm at best – but the doughnuts are AMAZING. Warm and fluffy and cinnamon-sugary. I'm hooked.

  2. How could I not stopped here sooner??? I must have walked past this truck in Carroll Gardens a hundred times but never felt moved to seize the opportunity. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge cake donut fan but after 12 years of trying every trending donut stand/store/truck in NYC I guess I gave up as nothing could compare to the best donuts on earth….Bob's Donuts in San Francisco.
Okay so unlike Bobs you only get one option here (and it is 4 times the price) but it is so phenomenal you won't care. The strange thing is that it is cooked so perfectly that it actually tastes light and healthy (I am sure my doctor will beg to differ).
I suspect I am in trouble now that I realized I can get this piping hot perfection a few blocks away every Saturday. Equally dangerous is that Blue Bottle and their crack like New Orleans coffee is conveniently down the street.

  3. One letter makes all the difference. "Carp Donut" sounds so, well, gross. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some Williamsburg Genius decides to open up a "Fish Donut" store one of these days. In fact, they probably already did. Let's just say that I won't be a regular. However, you add one "e" to Carp Donut and you get this amazing food truck, "Carpe Donut", Seize The Day, Seize The Moment, Seize The Donut. Seize The D. And I often do. Especially if it's bigger than 7 inches and standing to attention. But back to the holes. The donut holes I mean. Or rather the donuts.

What to get: Apple Donuts, hot and fresh.
What else: Apple Cider, hot and, well… fresh.

It took me about 27 attempts to try this truck. Every time I was in Brokelyn, I asked them where they were going to be, and they would respond fairly promptly and in a friendly manner (especially if the girl was responding) and of course they'd be in Manhattan. Then when I was in Manhattan they'd be in Brooklyn. Then when I was in Main-hattan, I was in Germany, and they have no way of getting their truck all the way over to Frankfurt AM for me, so that was a lost cause too. Shocking.

I finally tried the donut on about my 34th attempt (I add 7 every time I exaggerate, deal with it), and my goodness, it was worth the wait! Little, scaldlingly hot, juicy, dusty, sexy Apple Cinnamon pieces of heaven right from the side window of their little truck, which I've usually found on Court & Bergen when I've found it, but check their schedule.

So although it took 41 attempts to enjoy these marvellous donuts, it was well worth the wait, and I ate a lot more of them than I should have.

And it only took me 48 tries to eat here. They're priced normally for NYC although they're pretty small considering they're north of $2, but that's okay. The Hot Apple Cider is scalding, tart and excellent too, especially on a cold day.

55 failed efforts and I finally got some of these. You'll like them no matter who you are, I'd wager. If you're French, just pretend they are "Crepe Donuts." And if you're from Dortmund then you may wish to refer to them as "Klopp Donuts."

62 efforts and I finally ate here. If you're a gay male, then they'll be your favourite "Camp Donuts." If you're a motor racing enthusiast, you can eat them in your "Car Donuts." If you just popped a cop on the West-Side and are still carrying the smoking gun, then try some of these "Cap Donuts."

    69. I finally did it. I ate it and I loved it. I wish you had been there for the 69. So hot and sweet and delicious. 69 is the magic number.

  4. Home made apple cinnamon donuts. What more can you ask for on a donut truck that serves hot donuts. The office couldnt get enough of them so a bakers dozen and a half was ordered on this trip and every morsel of this delicious fried and lets add ORGANIC goodie was eaten. Burp!

  5. LOVED this donut.  Served warm it was melt in mouth delicious.  (and organic or something the guy said, so does that actually make the donut healthy?) Perfect apple cider donut.  The only problem? The ridiculous too–high price.

  6. I love this little red truck! I first tasted their warm delectable apple cider donuts last April, and I crave them any time of the year.

They sell apple cider donuts, hot apple cider and coffee, but don't be mistaken, their fluffy, airy donuts are the star in this show. If you prefer heavier, cakier donuts, these might not be for you. They're dusted in a delicious blend of cinnamon sugar. If you'd prefer to cut some of the sweetness, let them know because they make these to order so it won't be a problem to serve them plain.

This truck can be found on Broadway between 55th and 56th on Monday mornings. Otherwise, follow them on Twitter to find out their schedule. You won't regret it (but I can't speak for my hips)!

  7. I've been eyeing Carpe Donut since my coworker told me about them a few weeks ago, hoping they would come back to 51st and Park (next to my office).

Finally got to try it today and happy to say it was worth the wait and the looks I got stalking the truck every day on Twitter (you can also check their website which has a Twitter feed with their location daily)

The donuts came nice and warm, and had the perfect texture of a deep fried donut  (and not cakey like some places) with a generous coating of cinnamon and sugar. I was able to get a baker's dozen for $20 to share.

  8. I've only tried their donuts when they're parked in Boerum Hill. Discovered them on my way back from a run. Of course I had to get a bunch of the apple cider donuts (needless to say, donuts negated the run..). Very nice crunchy shell with tender non-cakey/doughy inside. I do wish they sold a variety of donuts in the truck though – would love to try more flavors.
