Great place I recently found out about through A Yelp Elite event. According to the owner they have brunch on Saturdays and Sunday's, happy hour and Dinner.
There's two floors to this place and a beautifully lit back spacious dining area.
I will definitely return for a dinner or happy hour. The sample foods I tried I believe are all incorporated in their menu. The mashed potatoes were my absolute favorite! Super creamy and rich. I also tried their margarita pizza which was tasty. Their wings, & shrimp scampi all very tasty.
The mood of this place will get you pretty relaxed and ready to let go of your worries or tension. The owners made small speeches and gave us a little background on the place. It's a 3 year old newly renovated restaurant and its definitely a must go to place in the Village.
Made reservations on a Friday afternoon came in & had no problems being seated towards the back specially since the upfront area was crowded due to happy hour.
Once seated we stared with some drinks , I had the half size of the Pinot Grigio made more sense than by the glass , good wine as usual my company had Beer good as well.
Appetizers we tried the Rosemary wood fire grill wings , wow .. Very good wings nice & crispy great flavor to them.
Next The Margarita pizza , good pizza as well nice tasting sauce freshly made crispy thin crust very good would've loved more cheese & basil on it.
Next was the Housemade Pappardelle pasta this was braised pork with zucchini & parmigiano very good dish nice pasta taste with the sauce & pork.
As for the place itself good size , pretty big area upfront where they hold happy hour.
Back seating area is small , they have a small stage where they host live entertainment not playing when I was there but they were setting up by the end of our meal.
Interesting fun decor , service was good & prices are reasonable.
Beautiful spot in Greenwich village for brunch, dinner, or drinks!
The space is dimly lit and historically inspired with glass bottle and pottery decorations dating back to the 1800's.
Although they're known for their brunch (hi, breakfast pizza), be sure to try out their dinner fare as well – their rosemary chicken wings are fall off the bone good.
Can definitely see myself coming back here for casual drinks, brunch, or date night if I'm in the area!
I don't know how I only discovered this gem recently, but I've been missing out! I came by Carroll Place with several other friends for happy hour on a Friday. Luckily, I called earlier that day and was able to secure a table for 6 people at 6:45pm. I was shocked that they were able to accommodate such a large group with such short notice!
We arrived right at 6:45pm and were seated right away. With just 15 minutes left until happy hour ended, we ordered right away. The food came out after only about 15-20 minutes, and everything was so delicious! Below is what we got:
Margarita Pizza ($5 during happy hour) – We ordered 2 of these for the table and I loved how simple and tasty this was! For only $5, how could you not order this? Keep in mind that this is a regular sized pizza too.
Pork ragu Sliders ($2 during happy hour) – We got an order for each person, so 6 sliders in total. The sliders were bite sized and reminded me of pulled pork sliders. Delicious!
Meatballs ($1 during happy hour) – We ordered 3 meatballs, and while I didn't try any, my friends seemed to really enjoy them.
Truffle Fries (2 market sides for $11 and not on happy hour menu) – I love truffle anything, and these truffle fries did not disappoint! Loved the flavoring and the thickness of the fries. So glad we got 2 orders!
Wood Fired Rosemary wings ($10 and not on happy hour menu) – These stole the show. Hands down. I had read many great Yelp reviews about the wings, so I knew we had to order these. The wings are so tender and flavorful with distinct hints of rosemary, and they're actually quite large too. We loved these so much that we had to order another plate of these!
During happy hour there is also half-priced wine, beer, and cocktails, so we ordered several glasses of wine for about $5/glass.
After everything we ordered, the damage was less than $100. With tax and tip, it came out to about $16/person. I don't know anywhere else in NYC where you can get quality food and drinks for so cheap! I can't wait to come back and try the bottomless brunch that I've read so much about!
This is a great place to grab a few drinks with friends as well as enjoy good food.
We made reservations ahead of time so thankfully we were seated right away.
Food was good and drinks were strong and well made. Service was decent. The crust on the pizzas had great texture and flavor.
Bathrooms located downstairs and co-ed with several enclosed stalls but all stalls share the same sink area.
Sweet spot for a date or just to hang out with your friends.
Adore their bruschetta!
Ah, the comfort of familiarity. When I visited Carroll Place on Monday night, I had never entered the space before. Yet I felt like I had, without knowing why. But the why became pretty clear upon my first scan of the menu. The organization, the font, the menu offerings–serious deja vu going on. And then it hit me: I had recently eaten at one of my very favorite Italian spots on the Upper West Side, Osteria Cotta. I've been to Cotta six or seven times at this point so am–you guessed–familiar with the menu. This is a really long-winded way of saying that Carroll Place is in fact Cotta's sister restaurant and my visit here can only be described as serendipity (though if I'm being totally honest, I like Cotta better!). Both well-priced, both a great time.
Like Cotta, the interior is beautiful–but in a different way. Whereas Cotta feels cozier and intimate, Carroll Place is more spacious and social. Majestically high ceilings with beautiful lighting fixtures, an expansive bar area, Beauty and the Beast level candles, etc. And that's just in the front space. The back is more of what you'd typically find in a sit-down restaurant–brighter lighting, smaller tables and quieter than the more gastropub-esque setting in front. I'm also pretty sure there's seating on the balcony–another Cotta feature. Overall, while this could be considered a date spot, I'd say it's suitable for any type of occasion.
Carroll Place is a wine bar above all else. They do offer a number of beer and cocktails, but upon looking at the menu here it's pretty clear that wine is the specialty. That said, we actually started with cocktails first. I wasn't feeling wine (initially). We each got a different cocktail so I had the wonderful opportunity to try three drinks: the Bontempo (gin, fragoli wild strawberry liquor, lemon, mint, cava rose), the Bleeker Street Sour (rye, amaretto, lemon, egg white, angostura montepulciano float) and the Ginger Derby (bourbon, ginger liqueur, grapefruit, honey syrup). These drinks looked a lot better on paper than they actually were. Of the three, the Bontempo was my favorite and the Ginger Derby, my least favorite. And as luck would have it, that was my drink. Oh well. Onto the wine…
…so Carroll place offers the glorious deal of half-off bottles of wine on Monday nights. Because who goes out drinking on a Monday? The answer is us. We do. So we ordered a bottle of Rioja ($26 w/ the deal) and it was absolutely fantastic. Do this. Just stick with wine unless you're really not a wine person. It's worth it.
I do have to mention here that one thing that really soured our experience here was the service. Our waitress was MIA most of the time. Which was odd, because she kept butting in on our conversations (at least we know she is adamantly anti-Trump) unannounced. I would've been able to put up for that if not for the spotty attention otherwise. But let's get to the good.
4 for $11 Bruschetta: mascarpone & clover honey, buratta & red pepper, ricotta & basil pesto, caponata & goat cheese: A
Other than the menu's template and font, this helped solidify my conviction that the similarities between Carroll Place and Cotta were more than just coincidence. And like Cotta, Carroll Places offers a superb deal on bruschetta that I'd recommend to anyone–with the exception of those intolerant of lactose. Each taste of bruschetta here is rich and luxurious (try to read this in a non-redundant way). I could honestly eat this for desert. The mascarpone and honey is slightly sweet, fluffy and heavenly. And seriously addicting. I adore buratta so my enjoyment of that one was no surprise. And who doesn't love pesto (other than those allergic to tree nuts–I just know many people with allergies so this apparently comes up a lot)? Hard to go wrong here–and these were a hit with everyone.
Two orders of 2 for $11 Market Sides: A- overall
-Broccoli rabe
-Brussels sprouts w/ pancetta
-Butternut squash
-Asparagus w/ parmesan
I'm just going to lump all of our sides into one paragraph because none of them were particularly bad, nor exceptional. They're sides at a wine bar so let's keep our expectations reasonable, shall we? The broccoli rabe was meh and probably my least favorite of the bunch. I had just eaten some bomb broccoli rabe at Ladybird a few days prior, so this one paled in comparison. The asparagus and parm was seriously tasty though. Not the healthiest preparation but it really hit the spot. The brussels sprouts were also incredibly tasty. Cooked perfectly and pairing them with pancetta typically
Wood fired rosemary wings: B+/A-
Also little to say about these. The rosemary was dope, the wood-fired, not so much. Trust me, I always prefer my chicken to be cooked cautiously (i.e. overcooked). But the dryness of these took away from the flavor, which was yummy. I'd honestly still recommend these because done right, these are a crowd favorite. Possible that this was just an off night.
I'm sad I didn't discover this place while I went to NYU, especially when I lived in SoHo for a couple months.
Came here for drinks and bites. I started with the Agave Loco and tried my friend's Ginger Derby. I've been having a thing for jalepeno in my drinks and this one was definitely a winner.
Here's a quick summar of bites I tried –
Arancini – who doens't love a deep fried riceball?
Schrimp Scami – light and delicious, keep them coming
Truffled Creamy Polenta – delicious
Mascarpone & Clover Honey – honey makes everything better, this worked so well with the mascarpone
Ricotta & Basil Pesto – simple and delicious
Basically all the bites were good!
I've heard great things about the bottomless brunch… Drunch! and would come back to try it.
