Lera Bassin
Semi hidden on a side street in the West Village, it looks like a dark bar when you enter, but it opens up into a beautiful, bright dining room in the back with high ceilings and a skylight.
The menu doesn't have any surprises, and consists of most of the staples you would expect from a nice Italian restaurant (Burrata, focaccia, meatballs, eggplant, etc.).
The Focaccia ($6) was excellent, as were the Sunchokes ($8). The Polpettine ($9), which was one big meatball, was just ok, and done much better at several other places.
For the mains, we skipped the entrees and went for pastas instead, which were both delicious. Definitely go with the Tagliatelle ($24), which is loaded with plenty of Pancetta.
At these prices, it wouldn't be a regular spot, but it's a nice place for a date or a more casual special occasion.
