I use to come to this place a 2-3 years back and I remembered nothing bad about it. However, these past 2 months I've gone to them 2 times and I'll be honest I will not be coming back. I wont be coming back for two reasons. The spanish waiter and the spanish bus boy. I am not sure about the white lady with blonde hair only because she hasn't served us or said hello to us.
The door of the place clearly states they close at 10PM on Sundays, not 9:03pm or 930pm!!! My boyfriend and I came in at exactly 9:03pm and the spanish buy boy had the audacity to make us wait so that he can double check the time! It was so damn obvious! I thought to myself, this bastard…then as we get to our seats he goes and retrieves a menu and places it on the table and as he is placing the menus down, he tells us "we close at 10pm," and walked away! Can you freaking believe that??? It was probably 9: 04pm by then!!!!
After we ordered the food, I would have thought after those two incidences, the food would come out fire fast and it didn't and I believe the spanish bus boy had a problem with that and began anxiously waiting in front of the kitchen window and even rushed the cook to hurry up! It couldnt have been past 9:25pm at this point. Please keep in mind they close at 10pm!
After we received our food, which is good (probably the only good thing about them because everyone and everything else is bad) we saw a group of 6 (family people with kids) ask if they can have a table and started walking towards the tables in the back and the spanish waiter then tells them in spanish that there is no more waiter service and that if you want to order and eat you'll have to go to the front of the store and order on your own. It wasnt even 930pm yet!!! The large group got mad and even voiced it as they were walking out the time and how they couldn't believe they werent going to get served when it wasnt even closing time!
I have never felt so rushed at any restaurant like that way I felt last night. If it were up to me those two spanish workers shouldnt work if they are in so much of a rush. The restaurant not only got less of tip from my boyfriend and I, they lost out on a $200 bill from the large group they shoo'd away 30 mins before closing time!
Terrible place, the owner needs to get in there and clean house and they to hire a damn manager to watch these "workers." I will not be coming back here until they find workers would actually want to work and who arent in a rush to go home and watch TV.
This isn't the first time I've had their food, but IS the first time reviewing it! I remember they had a location in Bayside. I wish they were still there as I LOVE their Penne a la vodka!
I was recently at the College point location for a valentine's day venue. I was happy with what was served. Walking into the place, I already knew I wouldnt be disappointed.
For starters, there was a house salad, a platter of deli meats, margherita pizza, and cheese pizza.
For dinner, there was chicken marsala, calamari fritti, and penne a la vodka. There was also a sausage dish, but dont remember the name. All was soooooo good. I ate so much and was sad i didnt have room for seconds 🙁
I recommend this place, for sure.
I came here for a bridal shower in their private party room. I really liked that they have their own parking lot since I didn't want to park on a meter and had to worry about getting a ticket. The space for private parties is nice and all of the servers were polite.
We had a buffet and pretty much everything was good, stuffed shells, penne a la vodka, flatbreads, mix green salad and meatballs. The only thing that I didn't like was the chicken since it was a little dry but overall the food was good.
They also had sangria on the table which was okay just not really strong.
I think this is a great restaurant for a private party since the room was private, the food and service are good.
3.5-4 stars, loved their pizza and pasta whenever we've had it, fresh mozarella and basil accentuate their delicious sauce. Calamari here is really yummy. Parking lot in back adds to it's appeal since college point blvd is usually busy. Plenty of seating inside. Super friendly staff. Regardless of how busy they are in the evenings you will be seated quickly and served just as promptly. Great neighborhood gem in college point!
Pizza isn't too bad, with plenty of fresh ingredients and they make all 12' pies from scratch. I had the prosciutto brick oven pizza and it was pretty good although I would've liked more cheese and tomato sauce. The crust wasn't anything special, lacking a bit of flavor.
The most disappointing part of my experience was the extremely rude service!! The cash register girl had a terrible attitude which shouldn't reflect the quality of food here since the chefs know what they're doing. She got my order wrong, gave me attitude about it, eye-rolled, didn't apologize, smile, or thank customers. Definitely left me a bad impression of this restaurant. I won't be back.
I've gone to Cascarinos countless times over the past 7 years for holiday parties, lunch and dinner. The food tends to be good most of the times and when it's not, they will change it… with some teeth clinching.
The waitstaff (particularly one person) can really brush up on their customer service skills. This waiter can be rude, dismissive and forgets to return to check on you at times. However, the bus boys are fantastic!!!! They do make up in areas the waiter can lack in skills.
Cascarinos has had a lot of changes over the past few years. Including not being affiliated anymore with the other 2 Cascarinos and not being in the Mets stadium.
It is a very family oriented establishment, you always see the owner and his family present.
They have a pretty nice sitting area inside. We started with a salad, the one with the feta cheese, it was amazing. Fresh and crispy. Dressing was excellent. The also start you off with warm bread. As for the regular cheese pie, the sauce was to sweet for my liking. That was my only disappointment. Service was okay.
I'll give Cascarino's a solid 3.5 stars for their Monday buffet. Service was excellent. The food was good but for what it's worth, I was hoping for something more unique rather than the usual baked ziti, lasagna, and other trays of food considering it's the holiday season. I was looking forward to some eggplant, maybe some lamb meat or Italian sausages? Unfortunately, those were not served last night.
I found myself eating plates of their calamari and mussels. Their calamari is not crispy deep fried. It was soft but still good. The mussels were delicious and their chicken trays were top notch. Being Asian, we're obviously not big fans of any chicken breast or any white meat but the way Cascarino's made theirs, it was truly delightful. Thinly sliced and each bite was juicy and tender. Meat balls were good. I just wish that there was wider variety of different Italian dishes. After a round 2, the choices just got repetitive.
Verdict – I was told by our family friend who lives around the corner that the choices for their buffet differs on a weekly basis. I heard their sausages are a hit or miss. Sometimes too salty and sometimes just right. I won't declare Cascarino's a one and done dining experience just yet. I do give them credit for providing well cooked trays of food when we were there. I will return again sometime in the near future hoping the choices will be different next time around.
