Cask Bar is a bar in Midtown/Kips Bay. I came on a Sunday afternoon and the bar was surprisingly busy. We ordered a pitcher of their jalapeno margarita. It was really spicy.. almost detoxifying. The back has tables so our group of seven sat comfortably. There are (fortunately) no televisions, so it's not the bar for the sports-loving crowd. Nice spot to check out – I'll be coming back!
Loved this place! We were able to make same day reservations for a 8:30 dinner on a Saturday, which was a nice surprise. The restaurant is cozy and romantic! Very charming! They had 1/2 off all their bottles of wine so we shared 2 bottles of Pinot noir for our table of 4. Both bottles were delicious, and you can't beat the pricing! Service was fantastic! This was my birthday dinner and they brought me a complimentary chocolate brownie with ice cream after the meal. Really yummy! I had the scallops with corn succotash for my entree. It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty. The scallops were cooked perfectly! My husband ordered the strip steak. It was cooked correctly but wasn't amazing. We will definitely be back next time we are in NYC!
Cask is one of the few places in Murray Hill that hits the perfect bar/apps/dinner trifecta making you feel right at home no matter your plans. Cask has an extensive (and constantly rotating) menu of craft beers and good wines, and their "rustic" food menu is a force to be reckoned with. Appetizers are reasonably priced and built for sharing, and they deviate from the typical pub fare that's been a stereotype for the area. Entrees won't break the bank either, with a range of around $15-$25 per plate.
Needless to say, Cask has been my go-to ever since I moved to Murray Hill, and if you're interested in some proper after-dinner cocktails, head right across the street to Middle Branch…Perfection!
Based on the other food options in this area, I would say this place is not bad. I've been here twice for dinner – I can see the appeal, but at the same time, I wasn't blown away either times with the food. They have some pretty solid appetizers so I'd make sure to order some when you go, but the main dishes I had (a flatbread and a seafood risotto) were pretty average for the most part. Good service, nice ambience, and spacious, so I wouldn't mind coming back if someone wanted to go. It's a good option if you're looking to go out with a bigger group of people since there are two floors of seating. Still, it is certainly not the first place that comes to mind if someone wants a restaurant suggestion.
Cask Bar and Kitchen is a great spot to grab a drink, snack or meal. There's a bar menu and a dining menu, both of which are excellent. You can sit at the front by the bar, or at the back at a table, there's even a second bar with seating in the basement (i only discovered this by going to the restroom). If you're coming early on in the evening, it's pretty bustling and packed with people but as the night goes on it settles down. It's always good to have a "go to" and Cask Bar and Kitchen is a great one!
Picked this restaurant for a small group dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes including half roasted chicken, fish n chips, NY Strip, chicken pot pie, and scallops. Everything was delicious but at least with my dish (scallops) it seemed to be a very small portion compared to some of the other dishes. The service was attentive and kind especially for a group with a specific payment "plan". Even with separate drink orders the staff was cool, calm and courteous. I would definitely recommend their happy hour sangeria and small bites. The bar is a decent size and nice to chill inside out of the muggy, hot summer heat. They also have a downstairs bar and dining area which would be interesting to investigate at a later time. Would come again if I'm in the area!
Stellar as always. 25 minute wait for 3 people on a Thursday night, but I'm used to that by now. This time I shared the mussels, crab crostini, prosciutto and Fig flatbread, Mac n' cheese, and paccheri pasta, followed by the chocolate brownie with ice cream and caramel and peach meringue tart. The mussels were fantastic, as was the mushroom pasta, but the crostini isn't too special. Loved the flatbread but I think the truffle one is better. The Mac continues to be one of my favorites in the city. Amazing desserts, too!
I want to try the cheesesteak egg rolls but they don't seem to be on the menu right now…
Cool spot for dinner and/or drinks in Murray Hill.
I use to come here often for happy hour back in the day, and I always enjoyed the atmosphere and drink menu. My girlfriend and I were in the area last Friday night (6/3/16) so we decided to give my throwback hangout for dinner.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience! The setup consists of a bar in the front, table seating in a separate area in the back, and an additional bar downstairs. Both the bar and restaurant sections on the main floor had sizeable crowds, but we were seated immediately upon arrival without a reservation. The dining section had a good vibe consisting of nice décor, casual ambience, and lively patrons. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, which is always a plus.
The food and drinks were enjoyable. We ordered from the Beer & Liquor and Dinner menus. Draught beer and bourbon/whiskey options were solid. I ordered the Kelso Nut Brown Lager, which tasted fresh and came with a nice pour. The food was also very good. We really liked the scallops and chicken pot pie.
If you are in the area, this is definitely a good option for grabbing a casual meal or drink. I am sure we will be back again soon!
