“The mains were standout, with a phenomenal dorade with fennel and shellfish broth, and my partner had a duck dish that just tasted light and fresh with great fall flavors.”
“The avocado toast is crisp, with a lovely tomato compote, and a very light touch, so the natural flavours sing.”
“Leave room for Creme Catalan and a digestif in a pretty glass.”

I pass Cassette everyday on the way to the ferry. It always seemed like a nice, quiet place for a bit to eat or a relaxing drink. Came here in Sunday at around 1pm for brunch with my husband and mom-in-law. Several other places we usually venture to nearby where too busy. We were seated right away, which was a relief! The space is truly lovely and very spacious. They can really fit a lot of people here!
Service was fine. Our server seemed newish. We had asked for a croissant to start but never received it. Took a little time for drinks and coffee but they only had one bartender. My Bloody Mary was delicious! Really, it was very good. On the smallish side for the price but I would gladly get it again. The coffee on the other hand was brown water. Totally not okay for a brunch spot or basically anywhere in the area. We get better coffee at the bodegas. Come on guys… You can do better. Brooklynites like their coffee. It has to be good and there's really no excuse!
Food was good. His mom and I got hot roast beef sandwiches, very tasty and filling. I don't normally opt for this during brunch and the other items didn't really call out to me. Only one egg dish and it was just okay. That's what my husband got, the Spanish breakfast. It was kinda lame. Only one measly egg, some rice which was kinda crunchy and a chorizo. That was good! But for $12, I wouldn't recommend it.
Overall it was okay. I think there's a ton of potential. I'm not dying to come back here but would if I needed some place for a large group or other places were too busy.
You, too, can sit amongst an endless array of Duck Dynasty style beards and topless women breastfeeding if you come here for Sunday brunch. But this place is way too tragically hip for my taste.
The menu is a little bit unusual from a traditional brunch menu. You won't be getting any diner-style bacon, egg, and cheese here. Instead, you'll be getting chorizo with squash or an omelet with kale. The food is alright. The smoked white fish is not bad and the kale omelet was surprisingly tasty (and nutritious!).
Overall, I personally thought the restaurant was overpriced. Honestly, any place that charges $2 (TWO DOLLARS) for "toasted bread" I.E. TOAST is just ridiculous. Seriously, I'm paying you $12-14 for my brunch and you can't give me a slice of toast with it? That's just weird.
Glad I got the chance to check out Cassette shortly after they opened this season.
Dropped by on Sunday around 1 and was glad that we were seated right away. The ambiance was lovely and vibrant but had the low key Brooklyn vibe everyone wants at the end of the weekend.
I had the avocado toast with an egg on top and my husband had the poached pear yogurt with granola. The avocado toast was a decent sized portion but in my opinion on the smaller side. The bread was also a bit too crispy. I think they could have used a thinner, wider piece because all in all it felt kind of compact. My husband loved his granola but the portion was teeny!!! They brought to out in a bowl and it was barely half full. He gobbled it up in about 3 minutes flat.
I think they have a few things to smooth over. For example no salt and pepper on the table. Our coffees took forever to get refilled and there wasn't enough milk for both of ours. The service was pleasant and warm so I think they just need a little work. Also, the prices online from their menu were lower than what was put in front of us. Didn't like this and they should update it.
I will be back for sure but will prepare to spend a little more since portions are tiny. But, really glad this place opened in the hood!
Food-wise, not bad but not excellent, either. The best part was definitely the cheese/meat/veggie selection at the top of the menu, and in retrospect I wish I would have ordered the chef's selection of 6 of these. Instead I ordered the roasted acorn squash entree, which came out dry and tasteless. Other reviewers on here seem to rave about it, so maybe something was just off with our order that night. My boyfriend ordered the crudo, which was much better!
Portions across the board were small and surprisingly pricey for a Greenpoint joint. That said, the staff was unbelievably accommodating, the interiors are gorgeous, and the cocktails are solid (not as good as those next door at Ramona, but to their credit, much cheaper). Not ready to write this place off entirely, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back for dinner
Came here for their Thanksgiving special dinner because Time Out recommended it, and it was very disappointing.
The customer service was fantastic – we were running 10 minutes late for our reservation and they kindly accommodated us. Our waitress was friendly and had a good holiday spirit.
For dinner for a party of two, we were given two appetizers, two mains and two desserts (all part of a set course and meant to share). The appetizers included a meats and cheese plate (I'm not too fond of cheese, so I was upset that there was no other option to choose from) and a very plain salad.
The main courses were turkey with the Thanksgiving works (cranberry sauce, stuffing, side salad, mashed potatoes) and a squash salad. The turkey was very dry and the salad was beyond boring.
Dessert was a chocolate mousse (which was the most bitter, yet not decadent chocolate mousse I have ever had) and a pumpkin pie that Entenmann's could have done better than.
I don't normally give two-star ratings, but there wasn't a single DECENT dish, and we ended up paying about $50 per person for a restaurant that was very inconvenient. At points throughout the dinner, I'd wished that I just went to a nearby KFC.
The still cider I got as well was very odd, and I wouldn't recommend it. I drank a sip of it and left it alone, and the waitress made no mention, which struck me as odd.
There isn't much to fault when it comes to Cassette. Spacious, great food and service!
Cassette is in the industrial area of north Greenpoint and it is an area that is slowly changing with more and more businesses coming into the area. When you first walk in to Cassette, you'll realize how spacious it is. As a New Yorker, we're used to such a small restaurants that are a basically hole-in-the-walls with a few tables, packed to the brim elbowing random strangers by accident, and may or may not have a bathroom. Cassette does not lack space at all and has three bathrooms. That's kind of amazing. Even my friend was impressed.
Space aside, the food is quite good but have only tried the avocado toast with roasted tomato jam so more visits are needed to try the other food options.
The avocado toast was really good though not the easiest thing to eat because of the thick bread. I did enjoy the flakes of salt on top for the added texture. The latte was good but a little too much foam. Our server Victor was awesome though. He overheard my friend and I talked about Ovenly being nearby and how much she loved the strawberry thyme scone. And what do you know, Victor comes and gives us a free cookie from Ovenly! Props to him.
So if you want to get delicious food and enjoy ample space in Greenpoint, give Cassette a try. Happy eating and remember: Don't deny, satisfy.
