We wandered into Cassidy's for lunch after wandering around downtown. The ambience is that of an older Irish pub. Its a very large restaurant and we had no issue being seated. We didn't have much time, as we were catching a show, and our server was very fast and attentive during our time there. We ordered a round of drinks, and the mixed drinks were nice and strong…almost too strong! The server recommended we order salads and sandwiches, as they would be out faster. I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad ($14), which was pretty standard with grilled chicken, crumpled bacon, avocado, diced egg, Bleu cheese, tomato and field greens- a bit overpriced for what was served. I disliked the balsamic dressing it came with (thankfully it was on the side), so I ordered honey mustard instead. My friends appeared satisfied with their various salads and sandwiches, and we were in and out in the amount of time we had. I wouldn't make a special trip to come back here, although maybe their other bar snacks and entrees are tastier.
Great pub food and the 'Bar Food' menu narrows the focus even more for those not looking further. Was not disappointed with anything we had at the table and will certainly keep this place in mind for casual nights when staying in the city.
The Cassidy is a old school bar restaurant. Normally this isn't my kind of a spot. But my expectations were exceeded. It's true sometimes the old school classic places are the best.
I came here on complete accident. I was looking for a place to eat at midnight. I didn't want to walk all the way back to the UES on a empty stomach. But I wanted something more than fast food. We noticed there was live music inside and that was the first thing that caught our attention. When we got inside the bartender came around and said in his thick Irish brogue. "Would you like a seat gentleman". I felt like everyone at the bar was staring at us. The bartender was our waiter and said the kitchen closed 10 mins ago but he will have the chef make dinner for us. I knew there were a lot of regulars here because the customers and the bartender were having I depth convos. The people were really friendly here. One girl who was listening to the live music was waving at me. I know she was waving to me because there was a wall behind me. The live music was great the style was rock mixed with a jazzy sound.
They have a good amount of bottle beer and draft. It's a bar so any type of alcohol. Nothing really higher end The menu is good stick to your ribs style food for the hard working man. Classic dishes like bangers and mash, burgers, shepherds pie and haggis. They did have more American style food. Like tacos and club sandwiches and wings. Most of the appetizers were deepfried goodies. I ordered a wine. The wine wasn't my cup of tea. They had 4 types of wine. Non of which were over $6 a glass. I felt bad for not drinking it.
I asked our waiter what he recommended. I told him I was thinking of a burger. He recommended the jack burger. He told me he orders the burger most nights for dinner. They hand form the burgers daily. For $12 I figured why not. I don't think I guy from Ireland would steer me wrong. He defiantly didn't!!. The burger was fantastic. I was completely surprised. The fries or chips as they call them were big and filling. I couldn't Finnish my burger and fries. The person I was with ordered the tacos. They said it was very good. They gave you 3 hard shell tacos filled with meat.
Overall. If you are looking for a great old school authentic Irish bar. The Cassidy is the choice. The people and staff treated you like they have known you there whole life. You get a lot of bang for your buck here. I will be back. I recommend stopping in for a drink and live music.
We spent a few hours here in between sightseeing and enjoyed our drinks for sure. The bartenders were very friendly, charming and they were just heavy-handed enough to get us nice and buzzed. The place has a pub feel and we were there during a very slow time, so I have no clue how or if it gets crowded. Location is great and prices were not too shabby on drinks.
Meh. Food is typical bar food and that's what I expected, service is bad… and it was quite empty when I came too. I was on the phone with a friend of mine for one hour while I ate alone and even he commented on the way she delivered the food to me. He said and I quote, "Ugh. That was rude… Sounded like she threw it at you." Lol! Someone commented that they become more kind the more you come in. I believe it but you mean to tell me.. I have to come in a bunch of times to win you over whilst I'm the customer? Does that not sound backwards to anyone? :-/
It's always nice when a random pub becomes a great night.
Stopped by for a drink after work. The place is small, but with enough seats at the bar we were able to get one. There are not a ton of TVs, so maybe not the best place to watch sports, but you can still see the games while also talking to your company (sig other loves this (kidding), but best for the both of us).
Bartenders are very friendly! They even made sure we fully participated in the Coors Light promotion going on at the bar that night.
And, the food is good! I had the penna pasta special with sausage and prosciutto that was really good – and other half had the chicken cordon bleu with butter gravy he just loved.
Great hang out, very comfortable spot to hang out, and reasonable prices too ($4 BL during HH!)
It was very nice to find a place in midtown where you don't have to pay a fortune for ordinary food. We went there not expecting much since it was just a pub.
french onion soup- the gouda had a nice smokey taste that added a nice extra flavor.
fish and chips- fish was very bland. The batter was not only bland but also too thick and overpowering. The fries were standard frozen ones.
shepards pie- pretty flavorful. It wasn't too overpowering with tomatoes or peas. It was very meaty and the gravy had a nice consistency.
Overall it's a pretty standard bar.
I came here with a friend to catch up. We were trying to find a meeting point between the upper east and upper west and landed on Cassidy's. The area is pretty low key and there weren't too many bars to choose from. That being said, we had a great time! They have pretty good happy hour deals and the food was excellent (buffalo chicken sandwich for the win). We were seated at a cute table in the corner and were there for a while just hanging out. I'm glad we landed on this place! Would recommend if in the area.
