Recent visit was to attain a 5 lb. chicken in preparation for Mid Autumn Festival 2014 中 秋 節 Zung1 cau1 zit3 (Zhōng qiū jié), one of the major Chinese holidays vital in Chinese culture. Meats and poultry are fresh and butchers will scale or clean the meat as you wait. For my 5 lb. whole chicken it was a reasonable $5.45 + tax. Young girls (non- college graduates) cashiers are chatty among themselves but readily available to ring patrons' purchases. Meat selections appear none are marinated nor seasoned American style.
Catherine Meat Market sits on Catherine Street in Chinatown nearby East Broadway and surely gets the job done for your hot pot party at home and Chinese holiday celebrations. I do not know if this business accept credit/debit cards.
Stumbled upon this butcher shop on the way back to the car when my mom and sisters were visiting. My mom wanted to pop in and see what they had.
They were only driving back to Boston from NY and had a cooler in the car, so my mom stocked up on goods.
Shrimp had a really good price and was on sale. So she bought two packs of the frozen ones, I forget the weight on them. I got about 2 pounds of the fresh ones.
Also got the garlic marinated chicken thighs, which were so delicious that I am still craving them. I wish it was closer to a train so I can go back more often. They also take credit cards.
We mostly stayed in the front of the store. My mom also got some different varieties of Chinese sausage.
