My favorite local stop for my happy sauce! My girlfriend lives in Hoboken -and I've definitely bought some spirits there- but this place has an impressive beer selection and they totally beat all the prices in Hoboken. We drive here just to shop when we stay at her place. The owner is a jolly fellow too….
This is a hidden gem in jersey city. located in an area of the heights where you would not expect to find a "nice" liquor store, i was truly happy and surprised when i walked through the door!
friendly, helpful staff, great selection of beer, wine, and liquor at pretty decent prices…. what more can a girl ask for?
every once and a while, someone counting their change to buy a 40 or trying to cash in 20 lotto tickets gets in front of you, but usually the staff helps you out while they are trying to figure out which way is up.

they have everything I want when I want it and it is dog friendly. So it is the best twofer. I can walk my dog, grab my cider (Angry Orchard, blue label) or a bottle of Carmenere… Boom – my night has been made.

Updating my review as I definitely think the staff here is friendlier than my first impression. Good beer selection and I love the wine sale corner in the back by the beer cases. Definitely one of the better liquors stores in the Heights.
Central Ave Liquors is my usual go to spot when I'm running late to a family party and I need to pick up a bottle or case of beer. The staff is friendly, from the cashiers to the people working the aisles looking to help you find what you need.
They have a wide selection of liquor, including some harder to find imported stuff. The place is very clean and even when the place is crowded, the line moves fairly quickly. It also has very wide aisles compared to some of the other local liquor stores, so you can walk around without fear of knocking over an entire shelf of liquor (which is legit one of my top 3 greatest fears in life).
Overall a solid 4* place, and it only loses a star because the mere existence of Buy Rite means that there are cheaper alternatives closeby. However, if you can't or won't drive too far to buy a case of Heineken or a bottle of Johnnie Black, then Central Ave Liquors is the place to go.
What can I say?! Great place, great selection of wine and beer, great service, and damn good prices and deals.
If you need it, they have, and if they don't have it, you probably don't need it. 🙂
Wish it was in walking distance for me, but you can't have everything.
