  1. The sandwiches are no better and no cheaper than in the rest of Penn Station. They are pre-made, but the one I had was fresh. There are some interesting combos as well as the usual fare. The one I got was called the Penn Special, which had salami, ham, provolone and sweet peppers on pumpernickel bread. It cost $7.25. It had a tiny schmear of pesto on it, which I guess the checkout lady knew because she offered me mustard. And I needed it.

The people working there are all very nice. A guy behind the counter saw me eying the pastries and he said the chocolate chip cookies were the best I would ever eat. It looked like your typical gigantic deli cookie to me, so I said that I was trying to cut back.

When I was checking out, the guy came over and put a cookie in my bag, free of charge. Now that's a smart business move. The cookie was, in fact, no different from your typical deli cookie, but considering that there are probably 10 delis down there all selling roughly the same fare, where would I go next time I need to grab a sandwich fast? Most likely to Central Market.

  2. Slow service at this deli. Got a tri tip sandwich and the two workers behind the counter ere running around in the back, taking orders and working the cashier and making the sandwiches. And then there was some really unsatisfied customers in front waiting for their food. But yeah, my sandwich was good. Could've been a little bigger but the tri tip was delicious.

  3. This place should be shown more love. With the glut of mediocre food offerings at Penn Station this spot is actually a little gem. It's clean, bright, and has a ridonkulous amount of food and drinks to purchase. Including almost 25 beers on tap!

I usually stop at Central Market to pick up a wrap or sandwich and drink to take on my ride out to the burbs to see my relatives. If I have extra time I'll actually order a fresh sandwich made and take a seat in the dining area. Lots of seating and a few large flat screens usually showing the game or news.

There is a ton of stuff here to choose from, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I am still amazed at the tap beer selection which is a good mix of domestics, imports, and crafts. Large coolers of canned beers buried in ice sitting up by the entrance. Grab a double sized ice cold can of Molson, Fosters, Brooklyn, or Corona to go! A boatload of snacks and chips here. Soups, pre-packaged wraps and salads, candy bars, bakery products, yogurts, drinks, sodas, coffee, tea, etc. Deli counter to have your own sandwich made to order – and they're pretty good.

Only had a few minutes before my train so I grabbed low-carb chicken wrap that was stuffed with grilled chicken, and also had tomatoes, avocado, provolone cheese, and some ranch dressing. Perfect to grab and go as it was pre-packaged, and actually pretty fresh. At $6.95 it was pretty much in line with most of the marginally overpriced things here at Penn. I guess you pay that extra dollar or two for convenience, but this is still one of the better spots to pick up some food before your trip.
