Chalk Point Kitchen
“I loved the farm to table idea, so many great dishes to share so definitely come with 4-6 people so you can try everything!”
“The toasted seminola bread made all the difference, but otherwise it really just is mash up avocado with some salt and pepper.”
“Also, The Handy Liquor Bar, located directly underneath Chalk Point, is killer.”

Had a reservation for 12:30 for 5 of us today (a Sunday). 2 people in my party were running pretty late, and they let us sit once it became 12:40 and they realized we were still standing around, which I really appreciated.
The drinks are pretty pricey, but my Bloody Marty McFly (pictured) was awesome and worth it. Once our late friends arrived, we ordered some avocado toast and muffins for the table. This was actually my favorite part of the meal. The avocado toast was delicious and those muffins were insaaaaane! I got the chorizo hash for my main, and wasn't blown away by it. I know a hash has potatoes, but I felt the potato concentration to chorizo was very high in this dish. I appreciate them wanting to serve a sizable portion, but I would have personally preferred fewer potatoes and a more even ratio.
Service was friendly, and coffee refills were frequent. I can't speak to the bill as it was my birthday brunch and my friends treated me (they're the best!), but this was a really cute fun brunch that I'm glad I got to try.
Reservations are a must and super kudos to the host who was super communicative before and after we got seated about our status for a table and making us feel comfortable.
My friend got the green juice martini, which she felt like didn't have much alcohol. I thoroughly enjoyed the avocado toast and liked my polenta with mushroom and Parmesan.
The service felt rushed. My friend had literally finished her last bite but was going to eat my friends leftovers and the busser swooped in and took her plate and silverware without asking if she was done.
I really enjoyed eating at the restaurant! The place is super cute and the staff is very welcoming.
I had the kale salad and my friend had the french toast. Both two really yummy choices!
They offer many vegan options also, which is a nice touch.
I've been to Chalk Point twice. On the first occasion, the food was excellent, but the service and place was off (very cold inside, coffee was served cold to my friends, not very attentive, etc.). When I went back about two weeks ago, the restaurant was warm, drinks were served hot and food was still great! It's decorated cutely on the inside – very quaint and almost farmhouse-esque. Onto the food…we split the below three ways (and to their credit this time, they usually split each dish into threes for us – three pieces of avocado toast, three of french toast, etc.):
– Avocado Toast: This is pretty hard to mess up, but, still, there's was great! A thick piece of multigrain bread covered in smeared avocado and topped with chili powder and sea salt – simple yet delicious!
– Avocado Hash: This is an interesting take on a vegetarian hash. Avocado is diced and cooked with yukon potatoes, and the dish is covered with two griddled eggs. There was a strong scent of lemon as well, which added to the flavor of the avocado and potatoes. I prefer my eggs cooked scrambled, but the way the eggs are served does add to the presentation of the dish. This isn't my favorite dish taste-wise (it's still good, just not my favorite), but it is a more filling one.
– Winter Vegan Chopped Salad: This was surprisingly good. Sometimes vegan salads can be on the more boring side (or try to get too creative), but this had a good mix of kale, arugula, radishes, baby carrots, kohlrabi, apples, acorn squash, pumpkin seeds and topped with (but not too covered in) apple cider vinaigrette. The tartness of the apple paired well with the sweeter squash, while the pumpkin seeds added a nice small crunch to the salad.
– Baked Sourdough French Toast: This was delicious and the perfect sweet treat to complement the savory we had in the other dishes! It's well-cooked french toast (crunchy but not overly so), topped with red wine soaked figs, toasted hazelnuts, honey, mascarpone and butter that melts onto the pieces of toast. You didn't even need the syrup, as it was already perfectly sweet. It almost tasted more of a dessert, which made me glad we split it three ways!
The food here is definitely stand-out for vegetarians. Definitely make sure to grab a reservation for weekend brunch, as it's much nicer than waiting outside in winter! I'd love to come back for dinner and try their awesome looking desserts too!
Tend to agree with the trend of recent reviews: Bad service, good food. We had a reservation at 8:45 and weren't seated until 9:05 (felt like an eternity since we were stuck at the bar and constantly being herded around by servers). Yes the ambiance is quirky/fitting for the farm to table vibe, but it doesn't really matter how chic the place is when you are extremely hungry and the hostess is avoiding you. The food was quite tasty although pricey – we had the octopus to start, and the lamb and steak entrees. The waitress was pushing for us to order sides of veggies, as it looked like many others were, but we didn't bite. I'd maybe come back to try brunch, but currently wouldn't recommend because of the service.
Awesome location and great ambiance! We came on a Saturday around 1 and only had about a 30 minute wait- slight mix up with our party number but they fixed it quickly and we were seated. Also while waiting in line to be seated we heard they take reservation which is unheard of for brunch!!
They have adorable shelves, books, plants, etc hanging on the wall. Tables are pretty close and the space is small but not horribly. It's dark but natural light from the window shines in and the wait staff was very helpful.
I ordered a side of toast (comes with butter in honey) and bacon with the avocado hash (potato and avocado with 2 sunny side up eggs). The toast was incredible and I've never had butter with honey- very interesting and delicious mix. The bacon was cooked a little too much for me but was still good and the main plate was good as well- not GREAT. The eggs were great and potatoes were good but got a little mushy from the egg in top of it. There was also a scent or odd taste coming from something I'm unsure off that was getting to me but besides that all good. The water also has a hint of melon and cucumber which was very refreshing
One friends I was with got the same thing as me and my other friend got eggs Benedict on a GF bagel that she said was awesome. The portions are big and the music they play is very fun but not overbearing.
Service isn't superb but food is worth it and it's in a great spot.
I would give 5 stars for the good but the service was unattentive. This has nothing to do with the chef, because the food came out surprisingly quick.
The food was incredible! I felt like I was at a bed and breakfast or grandma's house.
I recommend the avocado hash – it's a huge serving! You could even split it with someone else if you don't have a big appetite.
The quinoa waffles were delicious and I didn't feel overly full. However, if you don't like the strong taste of quinoa I wouldn't go with these.
The bacon is a must!
Food is actually 4 stars.
Service is 1 star because of the incompetent hostess.
So I call before walking over from west village and was told there's no wait for 2 on Sunday at 11am. Yay.
I get there and there is a wait, even though half the place is empty. Fine, people are late for their reservations, I assumed. I was told to put my name down and there will be a 45-minute wait. Okay, sure. I'm down to wait for good food. Walked around, grabbed a coffee to kill time.
Got back 45 minutes later and was told that the table's not ready. At this point, the place is busier but I do see one or two empty tables. Ok, fine. I'll wait some more…
Long story short: I waited nearly 2 hours when I was told the wait would be 45 minutes. Unacceptable. Hostess girl, your job is to tell customer an estimated wait time, as accurately as possible. You had ONE JOB. You failed. Miserably.
I know, I know. We all hate those reviews that focus on bad service because no matter what, if the food is good, we're all gonna go and eat there anyway, amirite? However, after this ordeal, I have major reservations about returning. I have better things to do than wait indefinitely for a table. I am actually so pissed that no matter how good the food is (the food is above average, but not super epic), my experience has already been ruined.
See, I can't even remember what I ate. All I can recall was how long I waited. I think we had steak and eggs and some kind of benedict. We got a side of fries? We got juice which was good. I got carrot+orange. Sure, you can taste that the food is fresh, farm to table; blah blah blah. Doesn't matter, still super pissed about the incompetent hostess.
Bottom line: make sure you make a reservation.
