After being totally let down by all the Chinese joints in Brooklyn Heights, I was finally glad to stumble upon Chan Yang Garden, which is a short train ride away from our place and serves surprisingly good American style Chinese food. This place is nondescript and located near-ish the Atlantic Terminal (between Boerum Hill and Prospect Heights) in Brooklyn. They mostly do take out business, but they do have a few tables for those who want to eat in. So, how was the food? IMHO, to qualify to be a good American style Chinese restaurant, you gotta be able to stir up some awesome Beef and Broccoli, Chicken Lo Mein, and General Tso's Chicken… and you gotta have tasty egg rolls! Well, I didn't try their General Tso's Chicken, but I did try all of the other selections, and they were all tasty. The beef in the Beef and Broccoli could have been a bit more tender… and the Chicken Lo Mein was not as spicy and flavorful as I like it, but both dishes were above average for what I've found in Brooklyn so far. As for prices, Chan Yang Garden is inexpensive. That was another plus!
I've been here a few times, typical Chinese take-out spot. Food has been good. One thing that I have seen here that I haven't seen elsewhere is the General Tso Half Chicken……very good variation on the normal General Tso dish.
