Chatham Seafood Restaurant
“The dimsum is great but their dinner items are probably some of the best in chinatown.”
“Coming from abroad, I've realised I can't take quality, authentic siu mai or har gow for granted, and this place doesn't do too badly at all.”
“All the food was amazing, I had to say that there is nothing like eating authentic Chinese food in the middle of Old China Town in NYC.”

We had the pleasure of joining our cousin's baby boy's 1 month dinner here. Her father in law spared no expense for the dinner with family and friends taking up the whole 2nd floor which has about 8 x 10 seat tables. It was a feast having 15 dishes, we are served professionally and with a smile.
The servers were all on their best behavior and was very helpful, changing used dishes replacing them with clean. Helping serve the dishes then help packing them since we couldn't finish a single dish.
Everything was prepared and cooked to satisfaction. The lobsters were cooked perfectly, not over cooked. The t-bone steak was slightly overcooked for my taste but still very good. All in all everything was perfect and delicious and I will come back to try this restaurant again.
Just remember that there is little parking in Chinatown so either take mass transit or put the car in the lot, enjoy.
This little restaurant in the heart of the original Manhattan Chinatown has been through many changes over the years. I have been here for dim sum, but more recently for a gala banquet. The service was very traditional, and the decor very typical of Chinatown today. The food for the banquet was outstanding. I am giving Chatham Square a 4 star rating based mainly on its lobster with ginger and scallion which was truly outstanding. The sweet and sour pork was not too my liking, but the food was a truly authentic Cantonese banquet. I am surprised this place does not get more press. I was here to support Cabrini Immigrant services, and had a great evening. One might say a very Jesuit-like evening.
I was told to come try the steam pork buns here a while ago by my co-worker's gf. She's a really big fan of them. I'm not a big fan of the steamed version because it used to eat is every weekend as a kid. Anyways, I sat at the counter and enjoyed a steamed pork bun and hot milk tea. It was really cold outside and I needed to kill 15 minutes before my haircut appointment. It was around 6pm on a Tuesday night when I was there, so it wasn't that busy. I was not rushed at the counter and I didn't need to be at a table. I left a few change for tip as my order was under $3.
This is not a fancy/hipster place. So, don't come here for boba tea!
Met a few friends for dim sum. I was a bit late so my friends already had a table. But it didn't look like much people were waiting out front. The place is medium sized (by ny standards) and the carts move along easily here. We tried a bunch of the usual – har gow, sui mai, rice noodles, sticky rice, etc. Everything was pretty tasty. Food came around pretty often too. And by the end, when we were full, they still kept bringing food around and trying to get us to eat even more. Teapot was really shallow but filled with lots of tea leaves so we had to get it refilled a bunch of times. Sometimes it was easy to flag someone down, other times waiters were scarce. Came out to be about $15 per person. A nice place for dim sum in Chinatown.
Love this place — it has quickly become a new family dinner favorite! Everything they make is executed well (I LOVE THE KINGDO PORKCHOPS!) The service is usually quick. If you have a large group, make a reservation to ensure good seating! The only thing I was disappointed by recently, was their fagao they put out for Chinese new year — they looked pretty, but it was clear they cut their dough with wheat flour, and it was rather dry and not chewy at all.
Really good dim sum, not the best I've had, but really nice atmosphere and everything! Made friends with some old people, so that was a plus.
theyre closed…. how could they close on me? i love them…. theyre the only ones who make me my fav…. which i dont know how to translate into english. I guess tofu skin veggies? Shurn Jook Chuy Pei Gurn for the cantonese folks out there… i wouldnt know it in Mandarin, sorry.
i feel a tremendous loss…..
My family and I came here this past Saturday afternoon for Dim Sum and, to our surprise, the restaurant had seating at 1pm! In actuality, we had planned to go to the more popular Golden Unicorn, but due to the wait there, we changed locations. Although the restaurant was pretty crowded, there were no parties waiting for a table when we arrived.
Surprisingly, the service was pretty good here as the Maître D' was very friendly and seated us immediately once a large party left. We were promptly served our tea of choice and began chowing down ASAP. Dim sum was in full swing already so it didn't take long for food to arrive on our table. As with most Chinatown restaurants, the serving system of choice is by carts. As for the Dim Sum, we didn't notice any dishes out of the ordinary, but on the good side the typical Dim Sum fare was served here as well. Here is a sample of what was served here and what we ordered:
Rolled rice noodles (with beef, shrimp)
Steamed shrimp dumplings
Steamed pork dumplings
Steamed pork buns
Flaky pork stuffed pastries
Steamed glutinous rice
Spring rolls
Chicken feet
Meatballs
Egg custard tarts
Cococut pudding
As for the quality, it was OK to my family. They complained that some of the items weren't as tasty as other restaurants. As for me? I thought it was a smidge above average. I thought some of the items were a bit off, such as the Spring rolls. The Spring rolls were a bit too 'flour-ey' on the inside. Also, the meatballs were not solidified enough and were too soft.
I would've liked the restaurant to have a bit more variety too as we did not notice one of our favorite desserts rolling around, the Malay steamed sponge cake. It will probably take a little bit of time for this new restaurant to get on its feet since it inherited this location, but it's nice to know that if some of the more popular restaurants are crowded a table might very well be open here.
