Size matters and this one is all about the ninja size cutlets. This new chain in the new world mall food court is about fried chicken and seafood. One of the menu items that totally stood out is the ninja crispy chicken XL. An arms length size chicken cutlet deep fried and placed in a large cardboard sleeve with a sword printed on it. The size of two large dinner plates the chicken is butterflied and pounded thin before frying. But it is definitely not boneless as the middle section of the cutlet has a few crisped bones to contend with. You can have it tossed in different seasonings like plum powder, pepper or chili powder when you pick up your order. Mine was dusted and tossed in chili powder but the other seasonings were not available the day I went. They just opened a few days ago so they have limited offerings. They also offer grilled items but they did not have them when I was there. Likewise they also have a large fried crispy squid about the same size as the ninja chicken xl which looks interesting. Easiest way to eat these large cutlets are the gloves they offer at the counter next to the knives and forks. Flavor wise most of the items are breaded in the same taiwanese salt pepper seasonings but a little on the bland side. There are several sauces on the menu but they only had chili sauce that day which was a little spicy but kinda sweet too. I also ordered a bento box with fried beef which had chunks of fried steak like taiwanese popcorn chicken but with beef. This was okay never had fried beef before reminds me of chicken fried steak nuggets. Even though the flavors are very taiwanese there is a japanese theme throughout. There is a large samurai in armor at the counter. The bento came with seaweed salad and shredded cabbage with sesame dressing that made everything a soggy mushy mess. I did enjoy the meat sauce that came with the rice though. It was flavorful and had little bits of chinese sausage in it. It also came with miso soup which they forgot to give to me and several other customers and had to go back and get it. Make sure you get your soup! They offer soda as an alternative.
They also have a bunch of tea drinks. The grapefruit green tea was pretty huge. They put large wedges of whole grapefruit with skin on into the drink. This made the drink very zesty and my tongue felt kinda coarse after drinking half of it.
I am also concerned about the cleanliness of this place. They try to rush everything with the large amount of customers they are serving and they seem to be cutting corners on cleanliness. Although they are wearing hats other people found hair in their food which is gross. Hopefully they will remedy this.
Not sure if I will return as the novelty has worn off after getting the large cutlet. If I do it is to try the large fried squid if they have it. Beware of long lines.
Cheers cut finally opened on 7/1/16 and I wanted to see what it was about. The menu is very limited and they were out of all their snacks except French fries. I ordered A1 the ninja crispy chicken. XL and a B2 fried diced beef bento box with French fries and miso soup.
Eating the XL Chicken was hard since it was so big and crispy. Luckily I ate this at home and used my food scissors to cut it into smaller pieces. Half of the chicken was super dry and the other half was fine. I asked for pepper seasoning but I didn't taste much of it while eating. Maybe next time I'll get another seasoning to try. The packaging was also weird and I didn't understand how to use it even though there were picture instructions on it. All i did was rip it open in half.
The Bento box you can choose rice, minced meat or French fries and miso soup or soda. I ordered the diced fried beef and it was pretty good. What was not so good was the raw broccoli and Cole slaw with no dressing or sauce. The miso soup was alright, I've had better.
The wait for the food was very long. I waited about 15 minutes minimum. Since this place just opened they have a few kinks to work out and I will definitely come back to try other items.
Tried their "giant squid"…yeah it wasn't so giant. They had on display their giant squid but its different when they serve it to you. It was smaller…way smaller. I asked why is this different they said giant squid takes too long to cook so they cook the regular size squid. Such a disappointment. I mean I tried it and it was good. I love the different dipping sauces. I would come back for their fried chicken. I have seen people holding the giant chicken and it seem better than the squid. They also have bento boxes. I would love to try those too. I am just disappointed about the size but it does taste good. It has a tasty coating of breading. When fried it's not over breaded so you could taste a good balance of squid and breading. They give you two free dipping sauce, I forgot which two I got but I believe it's the two top most popular pick. I definitely will come back to try their chicken cutlet. It looks so much fun wear plastic gloves while trying to eat it.
