  1. The only down side to this place is I'm now so far away!

I love cheese… let me count the ways. What cheese are you looking for? They have it. This little shop has more packed into it than you'd know what to serve at your wine and cheese party… or your beer and pretzel party. Want a taste before you commit? Just ask! They have anything and everything you need to serve at your hipster rooftop party, minus the serving dishes.

Cheeses (well of course), crackers, FRESH bread. Quince paste, fig spreads, preserves and mustards. Barrels of pickles, olives and squids? Yup, that's right. Along with some cured meats.

Writing about this makes me realize I need to make a trip back there and soon!

  2. Cute little shop with lots of cheese and meats. Staff was friendly enough. I got a raclette and a pecorino and both were good be reasonably priced. I also got a fig jam that was delicious and $5 for a jar that will last a while. They have meats but I didn't try any.

NB: they have jamon iberico but it runs $70 a pound.

  3. They have any cheese you can think of and they let you try them before you order just in case!

This place knows their stuff and gives you advice on how to preserve your choices. They can also give you recommendations on what crackers and side compliment the cheeses.

Oh and the owner (I think) sent us home with a bag of complimentary bread!

Love this place. Can't wait to go back for more goat cheese!

  4. Legit! This is a real cheese and  cured / flat meat shop with owners who know their goods. It's not the very best one I've been to but considering all of Queens I think this may be my top pick. Excellent selection! Knowledgeable mongers. Acceptable prices, relatively speaking (meaning, hey, you're on Austin Street in Forest Hills or you could be anywhere in Manhattan… It could be worse). For specialty cold cuts, cured meats, sausages, pates, olives, gourmet condiments and accoutrements and of course cheeses this spot is number one in the area and much much better than the Natural Market.

One of my gripes is that I have been victim to them closing earlier than their posted hours. When business is slow in that last hour of the day they will often bring down the gates without notice. This is particularly annoying when rushes from work or speed-walks 6 blocks to get that special morsel, whatever it might be, and finds themselves shut out. The other is different pricing for slicing. When a particular piece of sausage or cheese or whatever can be purchased whole or sliced and one elects to have it sliced there is an up-charge for the "Labor" of slicing and possibly peeling the rind or casing. Really?!

I still love this place but I think they could elegantly remove that policy. Not to mention, at those prices it should be well built in.

  5. Food specific retail stores relevancy cuts both ways. Being the only store in the area offering goods that the community will embrace as walk by traffic isn't paying the rent is the gamble.

Cheeses of the World has held its address easily since the early 90's when I started my love of cheeses from the top producing countries and emerging markets.
Hey, anyone gotta grey market cheese connection out there in Yelpland?

My staples of Parmigianino Reggiano, the true king of Italian cheese, always makes my bundle, perhaps a smidge of Tallegio or a Dolce Gorgonzola.

From Holland perhaps a little aged Gouda, the eight year New Amsterdam is a perfect inexpensive cheese, if your entertaining with lesser knowledgeable folks. Keep it too three cheeses when entertaining or palate compromise is sure to follow.

Spanish, English, Australian cheeses are all available for a slim sample but for me, there is no greater cheese producing country than France. The triple creme Brie, the mold aged Roquefort Pappilion —ahhh, there just is no substitute and the options just continue—Morbier, Basque(ru)–

Great baguettes, Nicoise olives staying with the French theme but the pate options are thin. Pate world is just as beautiful an experience as the wines that grace that blessed land.

  6. If you love cheese, you will LOVE this store!!!  This place is a cheese lovers paradise. You can literally find any type of cheese here and the owners are very knowledgeable and friendly. I love this place!

  7. Great selection of cheese at a reasonable price. They were helpful finding the perfect variation of cheese that I was looking for. The prosciutto was better than I had expected.

  8. Every time I buy cheese from here I am never disappointed. We always, always buy Sardo. My boyfriend buys other types and I honestly don't know what they are called, but they taste amazing. I love looking at what other imported desserts / snacks they have and I was so happy when I saw they had pfeffernusse cookies! (Imported from Germany and so delicious) This was around Christmas time that I found it.

Any time I am back in Queens I stop in.
