I've been eating here for several years and I have only once been let down. The food is delicious and not overly greasy. I love their Vegetable Fried Rice and Buddha's Delight. The dumplings are a bit doughy but still good. The delivery is always speedy, even on weekend nights and the prices are very reasonable for quality New York Chinese food. Whenever I bring friends there they love it. I will miss it when I move to the West Side.
YUM!
Went for Christmas Eve dinner with the family…it's now our thing to get Chinese food on Christmas Eve…particularly Peking Duck.
This place was PACKED…so make sure you make a reservation. We did, so there was no worry. But the line formed out the door and around. (All for good reason).
The Chicken Fried Rice and Peking Duck are all you need in your life. SO GOOD. So juicy, so flavorful. They serve it as a whole deboned duck to your table, then make you these little duck tacquitos lol at your table for you (if you would like). It was just too good.
The venue isn't glam but clean and nice. Nothing to complain about. The service was quick and nice.
We will be back next Christmas, thank you so much.
Back in NY 2 weeks ago and our party wanted good Chinese food. Again, we skipped the over-crowded touristy China Town area and headed to the upper east side. And again, Chef Ho's delivered excellent food for our party of 7. I recommend the specialty items from their menu. Anything with Chef Ho in the name will be flavorful and excellently prepared. The Chef Ho's beef is addicting, crispy and with a sauce that compliments rather than overpowering the dish. Chef Ho's Shrimp is served with two different preparations on one plate separated by vegetables. On one side is a somewhat spicy red sauce, the other side is with a white sauce that brings out the full flavor of the shrimp. We also had General Tso's tofu – often drowned in sauce in other restaurants, but here the tofu (fried) is lightly coated, and the taste is excellent. The Beef with snow peas was bland, but good quality beef is used, so I forgive them. All of the soups are excellent, and this time our server was patient and pleasant. (last time he seemed annoyed, but everyone is entitled to a bad day). Chef Ho's is on my list for a return visit.
We came to try their Beijing duck , So I recently took my wife for this special dish. I have an eclectic palate for Chinese food , having lived in Hong Kong, Singapore for many years. And tried my first Beijing Duck in 1982 in Beijing most famous Tiananmen square. it was decent! Not extraordinary, mind you. Good chinese food. Dan dan noodles spicy and savory.Still got to try their mapo tofu. The food is authentic and the space is in a banquet style setting a bit small. Great and quick service. A nice place to grab authentic Chinese food without having to trek to queens or Chinatown.
Solid Chinese food on the UES and so affordable. Dinner for two with no alcoholic beverages was $30. They have the best egg drop soup, hands down. The steamed shrimp dumplings, so good. One of my favorite places to get chicken and broccoli. The staff is very friendly and they are constantly filling your water. It's important to stay hydrated whilst easting salty Chinese food. A must try. Also zagat rated at 22 or 23. Pretty solid. Try it out!
Best to avoid. The reviews say "come for the Peking duck" as everything else is bad. That sounded ok to us, since we only wanted Peking duck.
Unfortunately the duck was also terrible… barely edible. It managed to be both dry and oily. The skin was not crispy, it was, rather, hard and tough like leather. The duck was not carved table side but rather emerged from the kitchen pre-sliced and, according to my wife who knows about these things, sliced the wrong way. Finally, this place embraces the rather peculiar tradition of serving four legs. Honestly it made us feel like we were being served a bunch of old leftovers.
My sense is that this place, like some others on the upper east side, survives thanks to a somewhat undemanding and elderly clientele who come here for the sake of tradition. If you're in the mood for Peking duck, save your money, save a little more, and then go to Peking Duck House on east 53rd st. They do it correctly there.
Came here a few times to try a different Chinese place than wok 88 and got their chicken fried rice which I seemed to enjoy very much. Haven't tried anything else but definitely willing to come
Back. Service was very fast and kind.
Ok, now I get it. This was GREAT Chinese food.
Sunday night, popular night for Chinese apparently. There was a 30 minute wait, which I was shocked about but the restaurant isn't terribly big so I get it. We went to a wine bar for a glass on the same block while we waited.
We started with the fried pork dumplings. They were way too doughy, won't be getting those again.
For our entree we got the General Tsao's Chicken and Beef Lo Mein. YUM. The chicken was perfectly crispy and flavorful and the beef lo mein was not overly greasy and had lots of beef in it.
The service was okay. Our waitress was attentive, but the entrees took quite some time to come out. I'm still not sure what took so long, but it wasn't that big of an issue. I'm sad that it took me so long to get here, but this will now be my Chinese food spot! I'm happy I don't live too far.
In the future, I will see if they take reservations, because when you crave Chinese, you don't want to have to wait! I can't wait to come back and try my favorite classic dish, Chicken with Broccoli! 🙂
