We came here for a small group family gathering and found this restaurant a friendly and cosy spot. We were satisfied with the portions of the food and drinks from pre flex brunch menu; however, It was a bit hot as the AC wasn't strong.
This place is wonderful.
A few friends and I went for lunch at 2 PM on a Sunday. One of us got there early and put our names in at 1:45 PM. We were told the wait would be half an hour. This is to say: this place is popular and doesn't take reservations. Be wary of this when making your brunch plans (worth the wait!).
Once we sat down we had a quite impressive list of brunch options/sandwiches and specials. For brunch entrees, each meal comes with a cup of coffee or tea AND a bloody mary or mimosa. I ordered the pancakes with chantilly cream and berries, green tea, and a bloody mary. Everything was fantastic. The pancakes were buttery and the cream was insanely light and fluffy. The bloody mary was thin but had a great taste.
Overall, this is a wonderful spot in Prospect Heights to go for brunch. Definitely check it out!
After wandering around trying to get in to a brunch spot on a Sunday morning, my exhausted friends and I (we had just gotten in on red eye flights) came across Cheryl's. Part of me likes that they have a package brunch- for about 15$ you get your meal, coffee, and a mimosa. That's a good deal… except I was so exhausted I couldn't finish my mimosa! The food was fine, but nothing special. We thought they would have more traditional soul food, but in reality the food was more of your typical cafe. We had french toast and an apple and brie omelet. This place wasn't bad, but it wouldn't be first on my list while in NYC.
Before heading to First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum, a group of us enjoyed a yummy dinner at Cheryl's. Everyone was super happy with their dishes – great flavors, quality ingredients, nice presentation, etc. The service was friendly – although one of the dishes came out significantly later than the other dishes. Warning: the place is small so beware of coming during the peak hours!
Decent food, but I was expecting more soul food dishes on the menu. Wished they served some chicken and waffles!.. I ordered the pancakes while my husband had the french toast. The pancakes were just standard, not as fluffy as I'd like them, my son seemed to like the blueberries it came with. The french toast was better in flavor but also, not as fluffy as I like em. Get the pre fixe which comes with an entree, coffee/tea and mimosa or bloody mary. The server was busy but was kind enough to give my son some crayons to keep him occupied as we waited for our food. FYI – space is tight so if you can come with smaller party then do so.
The pancakes alone make this at least a 3-star place. Extra star for our server who was super-chill and was working basically the entire indoor area on a holiday (every table was occupied). Come on, Cheryl's; don't abuse your staff.
The "soul food" on their dinner menu doesn't look particularly soulful. But I'd come back to try it.
Brunch!!
Every New Yorker's favorite time of the week.
ridiculously long waits, cheap sometimes bottomless alcohol and good food and friends. What more could one ask for, world peace?
Cheryl's has most of the above listed, a ridiculously long wait, with no ability too make reservations for Brunch.
cheap ( NOT BOTTOMLESS) drinks
and good food.
I had the pancakes with fruit toppings and my friend had an omelette with a side of chicken sausage. We both enjoyed our meals, The food is served quickly so the wait time once inside is not long at all.
You do feel a sense of urgency to be up on out once you receive your food, the staff is VERY helpful. That is a bit annoying but I do understand.
It is definitely worth the stop and the wait .
I was pleased to say we were able to get seating for this late brunch on Father's Day! Downfall was they ran out of a lot of food options. I am assuming they weren't expecting such a turnout out on this beautiful day. We choose outdoor seating. The service was good and the waitress was friendly. I loved my frittata. It was delicious. My sister loved it too because she kept picking at my plate. We had a delightful time and I will go back and hopefully they have more menu options available.
