I agree with the chick who reviewed "I pulled up here and was like, what the hell?"
The first time my boyfriend brought me here I made a face. It definitely looks no frills and borderline dingy from the outside. However, what really matters is the yummy food. In fact, in retrospect, I like that Cheung Khei put the decor budget into the fresh food instead.
Friendly faces are always pleasant and professional here. I highly recommend the roast pork fried rice and any shrimp dish. The shrimps are large, fresh, and flavorful. Yum!
I regret not living closer to this place. Lord knows most Chinese food on the UES of Manhattan is not as good as Cheung Khei and 3x the price.
Chinese take-outs are a dime a dozen, change ownership frequently and they're either good or bad (with no in-betweens).
The food at Cheung khei is actually good and their prices are cheaper than other area take-outs. They're not stingy with the dry noodles and you'll also get free fortune cookies with your order.
Will definitely order food here again if feeling lazy for quick Chinese…
.
Here's the quick scoop: good food, low prices.
Order any of the following for a good time:
Garlic shrimp, curry shrimp, moo goo gai pan, and crab rangoon.
Pro tip: When getting the lunch special, you can swap out the egg drop for hot sour soup by adding a quarter.
Solid and cheap option in the area.
They are one of the only places in the area with crab rangoons, and decent ones at that, but they're served with sweet and sour sauce rather than duck sauce which is a weird taste if you're not used to it. The sesame chicken is really good and so is their fried rice.
Also much nicer than most places, their people are friendly.
