If you want pretty good sushi on the cheap, then come on by. It's not the best, but it'll certainly do the job if you want to grab something fast and inexpensive. The restaurant itself is modern and clean, staff is friendly. I will say that the Salmon Mango salsa (see image I uploaded) was fantastic. I will definitely eat here again and maybe even upgrade the star rating once I've had more.

To New Dorp residents' dismay, Chikurin is the another dime-a-dozen sushi restaurant on the Island. I was dying for my experience here to be spectacular considering the closing of Staten Island's sushi hero, Sushi Excellent, but it just wasn't the case.

I placed a huge order from Chikurin on a Saturday afternoon and would say a little more than half of it was edible. While the portion size for the price was great, a lot of the fish was of poor quality or cut…including a few pieces of sashimi that I found myself throwing away because it was either fishy or chewy. The spicy maki rolls were definitely their best amongst my order, and I may return if I was desperate but wouldn't recommend if you're looking for the best in the area (I believe Nori is a bit better).

I'll say the same thing I say for most small sized sushi restaurants in the five boroughs, if you can't keep certain fish fresh and rotating regularly, just take them off the menu. If I had just sampled the more basic rolls from here I may have had a different impression of Chikurin but for now I'd say don't come with the absolute highest expectations.

I was very disappointed with this new restaurant. The food lacked presentation and flavor and the waiters lacked personalities. The restaurant itself is situated oddly, with a lot of empty, wasted space. There are a lot of bright lights to attract the eye and get you in, but once inside, it's just blah. The menu is very overwhelming, with pages of each sushi special they have. We ordered the beef negimaki, which didn't look like negimaki; crispy calamari, which tasted and looked more like onion rings and it came with bbq sauce; short ribs, which were actually okay, but came with a sauce that didn't go; florida roll and moscow roll, both of which looked better in the picture and the seaweed was chewy; teriyaki chicken and chicken fried rice, which were the better part of the meal. All the dishes lacked flavor and we left there not satisfied. Not to mention, the waitress was in a rush to gather our plates, when the restaurant was practically empty. I wouldn't even give this place another try. It can't compete with the other Japanese restaurants in the area.

First time here! Heard it was good from the radio so I decided to give it a try! I'm so glad I walked in. The food are fresh, well made and delicious! Had a pitcher of red sangria and it was alright. But definitely the sushi is worth the try. Friendly staffs and services! Coming back for more!

A newcomer on the block – and they off to a good start.
Spacious, open, clean and modern – with a little bit of kitsch that most new lounges suffer from.

Owner is a friendly guy, and tells you all about place if you willing to listen – I do appreciate it. Always good to know how restaurant started.

Stuff is super helpful – from selections to mixing up drinks (Fun!). The only thing that annoyed me a little is for all the waiters standing in line looking at customers eating – I do understand the urge to help with customers every demand, but relax a little, guys!

Menu is huge – rolls, sushi, sashimi and everything inbetween. Fresh. Make sure to ask about specials – on one of my visits they had live uni delivered that evening and it was out of this world fresh and delicious.
So far I tried several rolls as well as ala carte offeringd, appetizers and specials, and all been delightful.

Alcohol selection is usual for sushi place, beer & sake – one thing that sets them apart tho is that they bring complimentary sake to the table – and pretty good one I may add. Now, I do not know if it's just special since they just opened, or they planning to do it in the future, but it is nice touch no less.

    Definitely worth checking out.

One of the cheapest places to get sushi on Staten Island. Just opened so it is very clean and service is good. Great selection of rolls. Owner is friendly and will stop by your table for a chat.
