This place really fell off. Chikurin used to be my go to spot for sushi around Sheepshead. But now the service and the food isn't the same as it was when it first opened up.
I have come here a few times with some friends and the food is always good. I go to the other Chikurn mostly cause it's closer to my house than this location. The food taste same as the other one to me. It's just a more fancy than the other one on 86 street. It's dim. In here with lights at each table.
Came here for a friends birthday so there was about 12 of us. Ordered rock shrimp, tuna dumplings, and 3 special rolls all for me and my boo. The rock shrimp was dry didn't taste to great. The tuna dumplings is my favorite dish but it's $15 for 3 small dumplings. The sushi rolls were not great either. The sushi at hiyashi is so much better and it's only 2 blocks away from this place!
Three separate cases of three different family members getting deathly sick from the food here.
Shortest review I'll ever have to write.
ANDREAS.
He is the bestest, sweetest, most attentive and caring person who was lucky enough to bless Chikurin with his presence!
We moved with him from Masakari because he attracts loyal customers! He doesn't need to try hard to impress, his natural friendly and caring nature just comes out in his attention to detail. He is someone you would expect to be at an elegant and really high class restaurant (nothing against Chikurin ;D).
As far as food goes, the sauces could use some tweaking, but are still good. They have nice special items like live uni and giant clam. We were more sashimi and app people at the other place, but we are completely in love with rolls at this place to the point where we don't get any other sushi/sashimi.
They also serve wine in addition to sake and beer, which is nice because sometimes you want some wine 🙂 They have 2 floors (though I've never been downstairs) and upstairs they have 3 private booths that appear to fit at least 8-10 people each. The dessert are also a bit different from the other sushi/japanese places around which is a nice change of pace and a tasty surprise.
The general ambiance is pretty nice, somewhat night club like. The owner is also super nice and they seem to know the value of their customers. There was a time that we had a reservation (as did others) and the previous patrons were running late. Well the owner, brought out bottles and bottles of Lychee sake on the house for the wait. It was really nice and also delicious!
I am a fan and as long as ANDREAS is here, we'll be coming back!! =)
Definitely not the best sushi but probably one of the better average sushi places in the neighborhood. Fairly priced for their regular rolls ($2.50-$3.00) and each piece is decent in size and most importantly, it's nearly presented to us and doesn't fall apart before even picked up by chopsticks (it's very common). It shows that they do put the time and effort to make it look presentable. I like their spicy salmon roll, with a little crunch in there, although it's not the best spicy salmon I've had. Their appetizer shrimp tempura ($5.50 for three pieces) is fried just right. The outside is super crispy and the shrimp inside is not overcooked. Their sauce for the shrimp tempura is a bit spicy but it went well with the oiliness of the fried shrimp. Their service is at standard and our tea cups were always being filled. Chikurin has a nice interior and very comfortable seats and has a downstairs for more tables and bathrooms. It's a bit far from where I live, but I will probably go again if I'm nearby next time.
Loved the place in Bensonhurst and I had to try this one after hearing good things. The restaurant itself was very fancy looking as well as nicely decorated. The waiter was helpful and nice when we had a hard time thinking of what to eat. I ordered the sweet potato roll and the shrimp tempura roll. It was delicious! I also ordered the Kani salad and normally people would like more crab meat but I like when there's a proportional amount of crab meat and cucumbers. There was way too much crab meat. My significant other ordered oysters, the chicken tempura roll and the special lobster roll. It was also good and the price was great! Definitely will be back!
This is my go to local sushi spot. Always fresh & a quick pick up service.
