  1. Fidi has limited options late at night outside stone street so this was refreshing to walk in and find yourself in a American Chinese haven. White tablecloths and fake roses decorate each table.

This place is perfect if you're craving American Chinese fried, saucy and sweet this hits the spot.

The place is on the dirty side when you walk past this kitchen to the bathroom (perhaps something you don't want to see) but eh? I didn't get sick and it was yum.

Shrimp toast, steamed dumplings were good. Egg roll average.

For mains, combination plates of sesame chicken and sweat and sour chicken with fried rice and spring roll were just like your childhood. Sometimes you just want fatty Chinese. This will hit the spot.

  2. Have been here many times. Host most days is very nice. The place overall, to me, feels like the Catskills in the golden age I happen to enjoy this.  Food is good for the most part. They're accommodating I usually order something custom. Veg friendly. Scallion pancakes are tasty.

  3. Since I live roughly three blocks away from this place, I decided to give it a whirl. It was my first time eating "Chinese" food outside of Chinatown. You will always find a place to sit here and the waiters do a pretty good job at serving. Here is the rundown:

-Way overpriced (just take the subway or walk to Chinatown)
    -Soup dumplings were dry
-Szechuan wontons were the worst I've ever had (and I LOVE them anywhere else)
-Serve wine by the glass but expect to be pressured into buying a bottle
+Singapore mei fun was tasty because I love extra curry. Will be too much curry for those who do not like it in excess.

I wouldn't eat here again unless everything else in the area was closed, I was starving, and somehow could not make anything to eat myself at home.

  4. YAK.
    YAK
    YAK.

Waiter had an aggressive and unprofessional attitude towards customers.

I urge all those chinese waiters to be nice to their fellow chinese. We came from the place and shared the same ancestors. How come things become so unresolvable between each other?
I show respect to you and hope that you can do the same. If not, I won't despise you but only pity that you live a pathetic life attitude.

Sorry yelp, I am just being angry about their attitude. As for food, if you are not chinese and looking for Americanized-chines food, this is a place to go.

  5. This place is legit.  I don't understand the bad reviews.  I dinner from here regularly for work and I'm consistently satisfied.

First off – their dim sum is solid.  Not the best you can get but it's good.  Their sesame chicken is best I've had.  Not joking.

My favorite dish is the duck with pancakes.  At first I thought; duck with pancakes? Is that a thing?  Like chicken and waffles?  FALSE! They're like DUCK TACO's!  You get flat bread (pancakes) and delicious roasted duck, with crispy skin on top, some shredded cucumbers, and a sweet Chinese BBQ sauce. They're dericious.

  6. Forget being raised on a Chinese palate, I can't imagine anyone actually enjoying any thing that comes out of the kitchen, Chinese or Chinese/American.
The soup dumplings had no soup in it.. the filling has to be made out of some scrap byproducts
Ma Po Tofu tastes like tasteless pieces of microwaved erasers..
Sesame chicken and Orange chicken tastes exactly the same
The waiters with their not so white uniforms (oil stains from last months) serving you more in a cafeteria style (slap food on your plate) rather than a restaurant feel.. I'm not expecting white glove service or anything.. but this is just.. i can't even.. sigh
What I am most flabbergasted about is that Chinese people actually come here! My peoples!! WHY
With all that said, the food was no less expensive than anywhere else!

  7. Order Roast Duck

I'd heard middling reviews about China Chalet that it was overpriced and the same as cheap Chinese food. This problem can be largely solved by knowing what to order and what not to order.

When in doubt, order roast duck at a Chinese restaurant.

The combination was just the right amount of food and left room for dessert. The vegetable spring roll was mediocre, but this was remedied by the fried rice coated in pork drippings and the succulent bone-in roast duck.

Classic service extends to takeout with a towel wipe and a fortune cookie.

  8. Family ordered take out from here on Xmas Eve and according to my Jewish friend we are now honorary Jews so thats kind of exciting.
Have eaten here several times over the years and it has proven to be solid American Chinese food. We had Beef with Oyster sauce with amazingly fork tender beef which isnt always the case in most take out spots, Roast Pork with Broccoli which was good, very nice Roast Pork Fried Rice and a solid Lemon Chicken. Everything was good and the delivery was fast. What more can you ask for?
