  1. Dropped by this restaurant by accident while waiting for passport photos next door. Got an order to go: 12 pan fried pork dumplings for $3 and 2 chive pancakes for $1.50. The dumplings and pancakes were both ready immediately after I ordered as I suspect they turnaround food quickly given high volume and low prices. The dumplings are crispy and thin-skinned; pork is grinded well (I hate tasting pork bits). The chive pancakes were a nice surprise and very good. Given the price and nearby Prosperity being closed, I would definitely come back here. Chinese lady who takes your order does speak English.

    A nice find indeed.

  2. Consistently delicious fried and steamed dumplings!  (And the fried dumplings  here don't smell horrible like the ones that used to be so popular at the now-closed Prosperity Dumpling).

Also, the spring rolls are much better than those at Sam's Spring Roll in the next block.

Here the spring rolls are tasty, larger, and much less expensive.

And at China North Dumpling you don't have to contend with a fake hipster vibe…

  3. Is that place a hole in the wall? Yes.
    Is it super clean? No.
    Do they speak English? Kinda.
Would I eat their dumplings off the sidewalk out in front of the place? Hell yeah.

This place is serving up some handmade dumplings that are out of this world good. While you're waiting for your order you can literally see them making the dumplings you're about to eat on a table right behind the counter where you order. Also, their scallion and sesame pancakes are incredible. Even better is the price… The first time I came here I thought there was some kind of language barrier and she just told me the wrong price.
    "4 dolla"
"Wait… No no, how much for everything I ordered."
    "4 dolla"
"Ma'am, there has to be some kind of mistake here… Do you mean $14? I just do—"
    "4 DOLLA"
"Alright alright… If you say so."
I literally felt bad for weeks thinking I ripped them off! Then after reading through some other yelp reviews apparently this place is just mad cheap.

I just went back and bought 30 frozen dumplings to eat at home for like $5… It's a good thing I read those reviews or I'd end up feeling bad again.

  4. "Since you aren't going to get to the bar till 6 that gives me time to go to my spot!" Me: "You have a spot?" "I have a spot!" Me: "I have a spot too but I don't feel like trying to pronounce it." Everyone has a dumpling spot in New York City. I hadn't tried this one out yet. I had high hopes and expectations and most of them were pretty fulfilled.

10 dumplings (pork and chive or veggie) for $3 or you can do 5 dumplings for $1. Then we splurged and things got real after two large orders one of pork and vegetable steamed dumplings. Orders of spring rolls (2 for $1), and an order of sesame pancakes that seemed stuffed with a vegetable vermicelli and chives (2 for $1.50). They are enormous and more like mini sesame pancake sandwich buns. Things I have never seen before in my life. Completely different from regular flat sesame pancakes but I enjoyed the textures and more pillowy structure. Everything tasted excellent. The dumplings were slightly ever so slightly doughier than I like but so close to hitting perfection. I think I actually shockingly liked the veggie dumplings more than the pork because they were punctuated with so much good flavor! They also didn't care that we decided to drink wine inside of the tiny hole in the wall restaurant.

A good alternative to my usual dumpling spot and also you can take a frozen package of 30 to go for only $5.

  5. pretty stoked on these dumplings. They're perfectly pan fried, and the pork/chive inside is delightful.
the ladies working are always nice.

  6. I have been going to be this place for years since I was in high school playing tennis across the street (I've graduated for two years in college now). The only thing I always get is the bean paste noodle. They have never changed the price for years and it is only $2.50. You get dry hot noodles mixed in with a meat and bean sauce that has dried tofu in it. This one dish will fill you up. The spring rolls here are pretty good at 2 for $1.

  7. The dumplings are okay, not exceptional, not remarkable, but they're far from bad, and they are extremely affordable. The filling isn't greasy or fatty or salty. The skin isn't thin-flimsy or thick-chewy. They're alright, filling, and cheap. What's best about this place is being by the park!

  8. Yes!!!! Incredible price for the food. 4 spring rolls for $2 – would have loved to try them fresh but was there at 9pm on a Sunday. Even then, they were yummy.
The fried pork dumplings are delicious, juicy and crispy. So tasty with a bit of sriracha and soy sauce.  Caution: they do dilute their soy sauce with white vinegar. Didn't bother me, but be wary of the sour taste.
They offer some canned drinks as well – they sold me an Arizona tea at cost  ($1) and that's when I knew I fell in love.
Sesame pancake would taste better fresh I'm sure…but when the total meal for 2 people is less than  $8, you can't complain 🙂
