  1. What do you get when you combine Chinese American takeout with Chinexican (Chino + Mexican)?  The answer is China One Taco House.  While some of the Peruvian / Chinese takeout joints in Queens will have some Spanish speaking Chinos, one won't find that here.  But what you will find is a cheap array of Chinese-American fare with a limited variety of Mexican dishes.

Those of you thinking of the food from Fresco Tortillas chain or the nearby Sunnyside Taco (yelp.com/biz/sunnyside-f…) have it completely nailed on the head.  And just like those places, the food is all terribly prepared and has minimal flavor.  Mexican food purists aren't the only folks who will be disappointed, so will the craving raging potheads who are willing to stomach anything.  Chicken dishes are 10 cents more expensive here than Sunnyside Fresh Taco but not nearly as good (#1).  Any of the ground beef (aka chilli) tacos get soggy quick and the quesadillas are a mess.  I would avoid all of the combination platters if possible and the burritos are almost always poorly assembled.

This is one of the rare instances where I'll recommend the Chinese American takeout stuff over what could be had.  If you have to go the Chinese route, try their garlic tofu with minced pork or the scrambled egg with shrimp.  It's going to taste like every other Chinese takeout joint but it certainly beats the alternative.

Delivery is the only route anyone should consider here.  Eating in is ghastly during the summer as they don't have air conditioning.  The place is so dimly lit, it may be hard to see your food if you're not sitting near a window during the day time.  It's operated by a sweet Chinese family, but don't be surprised if they hear a little kid (speaking perfect English of course) answering the phone.  Spanish speakers, stay away.

Next time if you're craving a taco and all you have is $2, panhandle for .50 more cents and score a taco from one of the taco trucks in the neighborhood.

(#1)  Not that Sunnyside Taco is all that better.

  2. China Taco House is a Chinese restaurant that sells tacos, NOT a Chinese AND Mexican restaurant.  Perhaps the owner added "taco" to cater to the Hispanic demographic which the area is predominantly dominated.  I do not recommend ordering tacos or any Mexican food here because of the lack in quality.  There are plenty of authentic Mexican restaurants and food trucks a block away with better tacos.

In terms of the Chinese food, it is mediocre and not distinctively different from other Chinese joints in the area.  The reason I come here is because of the convenience of the location.  I prefer ordering to-go (5 minutes) on a cold winter night and NOT eating inside the restaurant.  There are limited seats because the owner's kids are taking up several tables entertaining themselves on their technology gadgets.  I have not ordered delivery (method most customers order) so I cannot comment on that service.

My favorite dishes I frequently order are beef with vegetables and moo shu pork.  The food is steaming hot inside the to-go container so I once I get home I open the top and let the food cool down for 5 mins.  Note MSG is added (indeed it's a Chinese restaurant) and the ingredients are stored in the freezer and cooked when ordered.  On one occasion, I could taste the fragrance of the freezer burn on the vegetables.

Come here for quick, easy, convenient, Chinese food! Not tacos!
