Chinelos II

“I got it "estilo americano"

My final thoughts are that you should skip out on the burritos and just get the Tacos (estilo americano!!).”

“Huge tortas, several times I have gotten delivery and it's an above-average amount of well-done mexican food.”

“Their "tortas" (sandwiches) are tasty, "Spicy pork, Salted beef and Sausage tortas" are great!”

  1. For $5 a burrito, I can't score you any less than 4-stars. Cute establishment connected to grocery store. Hit the spot of this Californian who was missing burritos from Oakland. I kinda wished the meat was a bit more flavorful and juicy. Also, I'm not used to eating my burrito with cheese on top and with a knife and fork. I like to hold it in my hands and get the drippings all over myself. That is the life.

Still, for this area, best (only) spot I've found so far for burritos that are good quality at this price. Will go as often as I can.

  2. I freaking love this place. I pretty much only order delivery which is probably for the best if you don't speak Spanish because when I went to the actual place to order it was like a total language barrier.

I probably eat here almost every week. I've had their burritos (steak, chicken, chorizo and steak), chimichangas (chicken, chorizo), tacos dorados, chicken nachos, tacos el pastor, and the chicken tacos. Usually I get them american style, always I get them with sour cream on the side.

All of them have been delicious, they arrive hot and timely. Never more than 20 minutes. And it's really cost effective too. If you can order at the place, you can easily spend less than 10 dollars. If you're ordering delivery for two you can easily feed two people with average appetites for 10 bucks. You can't beat the price.

I love this place, it's by far the best Mexican food I've had in the neighborhood.

  3. Chinelos II is a hidden gem near CCNY. I ducked in during a sudden downpour and ordered a veggie burrito to bring with me to campus. The ordering process is unique, but not confusing; you order at the counter, pay at the register over in the grocery store side of Chinelos, and bring the receipt (now marked "paid") back to the counter for your food. Five minutes later, your food is ready. And it's delicious. It probably tastes extra-good because you know you only paid $4 for a giant burrito. In fact, since everything is so absurdly cheap and there's no tax, you can put a dollar an the tip jar for the lovely person who made your food and STILL have a huge lunch for 5 bucks.

I really enjoyed being on Spanish mode here, but you don't speak any Spanish just point at what you want to order using one of the take-out menus on the counter. Try to pronounce the Spanish names, if only for the bemusement of the counter lady/man–happy people make better food 🙂
