This little place is a hidden jackpot! and super close to the F and the R train. It's a great place to get a quick bite to eat.
I'm seriously amazed at how affordable everything was.
I got 6 steamed Pork Dumplings for the price of $1.50 and it completely satisfied my dumpling cravings!
My friend got congee (rice porridge) and once again ONLY $1.50.
Add this to your list of cheap eats in Queens. Their dumplings are juicy and the dumpling skin is just right in thickness and texture. $2 for 8 dumplings is a steal and if you get the fish ball and rice roll too (also 2 dollars), it's more than enough to get you full. That's a full meal for 4 dollars! Eat your heart out Rachel Ray and your $40 a day. What would you do with all that money you end up saving?
Note: there are no seating available, this is a food cart.
3.5 stars but I will round up!
My friend who lives in Elmhurst raved to me about this food cart so I really wanted to try it out. It is very conveniently located a few steps away from the Grand Ave-Newton subway station. While I was walking there, I was actually scared that I wouldn't know how to order since most Chinese people in Queens speak Mandarin. But, the owner of the cart is actually one of the most talented people I have ever met. Not only did he know both Cantonese and Mandarin, but he was also able to carry out an entire conversation in English as well! I did not expect that at all! He's also a great salesperson cause he makes you deals you can't resist…Cool guy!
Dumplings- $1 for 4! What a steal! Taste wise they were ok. I've had better dumplings with better skins before but these were not bad. Kind of greasy though but not a big deal.
Fish ball fun- Their most popular item! And they're only $2 each! It comes in a small container and it may seem like a small portion but it was surprisingly super filling! I had trouble finishing one small container! The fish balls were really good and the fun was soft and not stale at all. The peanut sauce was good.
Overall, this is a great cart for SUPER cheap and filling Chinese cart food! The owner is awesome, the food is good, and everything is filling and cheap! I wouldn't suggest making your way here just to try the food but it's definitely a great option for Elmhurst locals!
Usually always there on weekends, weekday schedule is very inconsistent! I use to swear by this spot, all prices went up & the food quality has declined…
The dumplings are still ok, not as good as before. The fish balls are usually quivered up, from being in the hot water for to long Ewww! Sh*t what happened to the Tea Eggs, Officially Disgusting.
Hurts my feelings writing this review, I grew up on this spot! I believe there is a new owner, usually you can catch him smoking next to the cart!
A little gem! I love finding places like these. Good food, and very inexpensive. I got the congee, dumplings, and rice noodle all for $5. Dumplings were my favorite. Next time I might get two orders of those and Cheung fun.
They are located on the corner of 51st and Broadway. Moh is a good guy. Def worth a try when you are in the area!
5 stars for this *Chinese Food Cart*… that doesn't even have an actual name lol. Probably the best food cart in the neighborhood. Cheap prices, good value of food. $1.50 for the chicken stick, huge piece of chicken thigh meat, crunchy batter and great flavor. The chicken stick across the street is around the same price, but probably 1/3 of the meat and dry chicken. The fish balls were smaller than I thought but for $1 you can't really complain. Hold the hot sauce if you can't do spicy. The best deal is definitely the $1 for 4 dumplings. Spent less than $5 for this street side meal. I can't believe I'm only trying this cart out now even though I've lived in the neighborhood for so long. They'll definitely see me going back for more of the menu items (they have tea eggs too!)
After a night of drinking, I woke up craving yu don cheung fun (fish balls with noodles). On a search for the ultimate HK/Cantonese/Chinese comfort foods without venturing out to Chinatown, I remembered Elmhurst was bustling with a bunch of these.
The gentleman there is super friendly and speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English, so don't be afraid to approach him. His demeanor might look tough, but he's actually a really nice guy.
I ordered 2 fishballs with noodles and quickly devoured them. For the price, it's a great cheap eat. Slathered in oyster sauce, peanut sauce and hot sauce, the noodles and fish balls were perfect for soaking up last night's alcohol.
I'll be back to try the dumplings!
PS: They're closed on Mondays!
I grew up on rice noodles and fish balls so I was very happy to see this cart as we were looking for a quick meal. $2 gets you a large rice noodle with several fish balls. I'm not picky so I let them pour all the sauce in the container. The good thing was it didn't drench my noodles – it was just enough to coat the noodle with flavor. Two orders of that and a large fried dumpling platter cost $6. This is why I love Chinese food! Cheap, easy, delicious and fast! You can't get better than that. If you're worried about street carts or cleanliness, then this is not the cart for you. They have other options like tea eggs and noodles. Good variety. The couple making the food are very nice and fast at serving customers. Would definitely return again if I'm in the neighborhood.
