If it wasn't for the decency of the food I ordered, I would've given this place one star. This isn't the usual location I go to but my friend suggested we try it out so I said sure, how much different could it be? Came here on a Sunday around 6, and it was PACKED. We didn't have to wait to be seated but first of all, please have the courtesy to greet your guests with a simple hi. The waiters were so flustered and basically got two menus and moved us along to a table. We were seated, and were given two menus. Um, I'm with a party of four people so why are you giving us two menus? If I didn't already know what I was going to order, I would've been more annoyed than I already was.
Second, I was holding a birthday cake and I was hoping we'd be able to eat it at the restaurant so I wanted them to keep it in the refrigerator. I mean usually I don't have to ask to have a cake put away for me during the meal. But no, the waitress looked at it and just ignored it completely. RUDE. I was in the middle of asking her while pointing at the cake and she just walked away like no Fs given. Fifteen minutes into my horrible dining experience, the actual owner of the place came up to me and asked me if I wanted it kept inside. Thank you kind sir, you should hire more competent waiters.
My friends and I all ordered either the jajangmyun or jampong so they gave us some small bowels before our food came…more like threw them on the table callously. Can someone please sign these ppl up for a course in waitressing 101?
Food was decent. The jampong came with a lot of mussles so that's a plus. The jajangmyun was okay but a little too oily. It's definitely better at the other Chinese house that's located by the Murray LIRR train station.
At the end of the meal, I told the waitress that I had a cake being held inside. I was expecting her to bring it out with some plates and forks so we could eat it at the restaurant but NOPE. She just set it down with the check and quickly walked away. Wow, I think right then was when I decided I'm never coming back. We ended up bringing the cake back to my friends place and eating it there. While I do understand that it's busy, it is not an excuse to display HORRIBLE and extremely RUDE service. I was so disappointed because I really like their food/menu. I'm definitely going to stick with my regular location from now on. This one doesn't even offer the fried dough desserts at the end. How sad.
Ate here last night and loved the half/half noodle bowl! I'm a huge fan of variety but I can never decide on just one. This is the really a place made just for me. The restaurant is spacious, clean and the food came out quick. I really liked that the service was service was good, even towards me – a non-Korean. All you Asians know what I'm talking about!
The crispy shrimp and deep fried beef are MUSTS! We came with a group of 7 and ordered enough for 10. Three big hungry dudes wanted to order everything off the menu but instead they just ate everything we ordered for the group of 6. If you're looking for noodles. their black bean really tasty. I may do a whole bowl of that for myself next time.
Pretty good place to eat korean chinese fusion food. Definitely recommend the half jjajjamyun and jjamppong and fried shrimp in spicy garlic sauce. Also ordered seafood udon here, the name is misleading because it's not actually udon noodles. Instead they use the same noodle from the jjajjamyun but place it in a non spicy seafood broth. They also cooked the octopus PERFECTLY. Usually if it's cooked too long it can be rubbery but what I got in my dish was perfectly tender octopus. Service needs some work, but would overall recommend this place.
I can't get enough of this place. I love jjajangmyun and this place makes it perfectly! I usually get the pork noodles. I love the sauce and I love the texture of the noodles – never mushy, no matter how long it has been soaking in the sauce. I usually also get the sweet and sour pork. The portion is huge – enough for 3-4 people. The sauce is perfect and the chicken is so tender.
The place is spacious and has a private room if needed. There is a parking lot around back and street parking. The only thing is that most of the waiters there only speak Korean, it's very hard to communicate with them. I usually just point at the menu and they'll understand. They also give side dishes, you can ask for a refill at any time!
Absolutely the BEST ever!!!!
Hand tossed noodles… who else does that?? 5 stars! Oh yeah…. CHEAP and GREAT food!!
Their food is amazing and their lunch specials are pretty good as well. The mushroom and rice is really and FILLING!
It did not live up to the hype. I vaguely remember visiting the old location and hear so many good things about this place, so I was excited. The new location is spacious and clean, but the parking was nonexistent. We had a big group reservation early in the night, so was promptly seated on the second floor. The service was ok, it was obviously short staffed because most of the action was happening on the first floor. Their food was disappointing. The sweet and sour pork came with the sauce already on, which made the whole dish soggy by the time it was served. Their kkanpoong shrimp, on the other hand, was excellent and served with a deep garlicky sauce on the side. I had pepper jjamppong for the meal and it was super spicy as advertised. However, it was completely tasteless and underseasoned. The jajangmyun looked decent. It feels like they tried to make things a bit more healthy and upscale than the traditional Korean – Chinese fare. It did not work for me but other people in my party enjoyed it. I will probably not revisit on my own.
I've always been a fan of jjajangmyun, but this place was disappointing both in food and service. I came here for my friend's birthday and they pushed me to our seats, where we shared a table with 2 others. I see the table, lady, I'm walking, no need to push! It was also cramped and loud. We ordered and then they dropped an empty bowl with two plastic spoons on our table. Thanks? But really, all the people around us had metal spoons…what's with the discrimination? They then took fifteen minutes before taking the cake to the fridge from our table. I ordered a regular jjajangmyun and it was soooooo oily, far from the usual yummy jjajangmyun I get from Guh Song, Sam Won Gak, or Chinese House in murray hill flushing. It just felt slimy and icky instead of my usual appreciation for yummy, chewy noodles. They were also really skimpy on the meat. Also, my friend wasn't done eating her 1/2 soup 1/2 jjajangmyun when the lady rushed us and asked if my friend wanted to pack it. She barely even touched the soup…Let the girl finish her food! We told her we had cake and she just plopped the cake box back on the table with the check. Thanks, but no thanks lady. I won't be coming back. Far better places with better service in the area!
Not sure why this place is called both Korean Noodle House and Chinese House… Anyway, I've been hearing about this half and half bowl of jajungmyun (black bean sauce noodles) and jampong (spicy seafood noodles) for a while and I finally had a taste. I can't say I was impressed. The jajungmyun here was pretty bland. The sauce was too sweet for my liking, and the noodles left much to be desired. That being said, this is the first time I've had korean jajungmyun; I'm used to the Chinese version, which is salty. The other side of the bowl had spicy seafood noodles. It was indeed very spicy and contained a decent amount of mussels, shrimp and squid.
It was clear that they treat their Korean customers much more nicely and attentively than non-Koreans. My water was never refilled, neither was the banchan. They weren't exactly busy either as there were only 4-5 other occupied tables. Meh, you don't come here for the ambiance or service. Best part of the meal was the free Yakult for dessert.
