When I'm seeing two or three films in the same day at Film Forum, this is where I go for nourishment during intermission… Once you figure out the menu (they don't provide exact prices for each individual item, also there aren't any set specified menu items — it's all "whatever you want" and they price it accordingly) you get predictable good quality ingredients and fast service at a reasonable price…

    This place is always clean, the service is extremely friendly and patient, and one server in particular is perhaps the fastest worker I've ever seen — he can throw together a burrito with twenty different components in about five seconds…

    What I order: Barbacoa (spicy shredded beef), extra Barbacoa (extra spicy shredded beef), cilantro lime rice, extra cilantro lime rice, black beans, extra black beans, fajita vegetables, extra fajita vegetables, fresh tomato salsa, extra tomato salsa, tomatillo green chili salsa, extra tomatillo green chili salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa, extra chili corn salsa — if I were serving me I would hate me, but these people are extremely courteous and generous — I avoid the cheese and sour cream and guacamole (because I'm a veggie addict, and don't particularly care for juices flowing down my arm) but I've tried them and they're decent for fast food…

    Slightly funny story — I'd never been to a Chipotle before, so the first time I entered this place and stepped up to the counter I didn't really understand the menu so I asked the person behind the counter "How does this work, exactly?" and they said the following: "Well, first, this is a tortilla, it's Mexican, it's made out of flour…"

I wanted to find something that was somewhat healthy and quick to eat and it was around 5:00p and if you know the area most of the lunch places are closed or were closing.  When I first saw the place I have to admit it wasn't my first choice.  Spent 5 minutes walking around before deciding to eat here.  I'm glad that I did their rice bowls are great you can put in what ever you want.  They offer white rice or brown with chicken, beef etc.  Very delicious, filling and the price was decent.  I would definitely eat here again.

Recently named on the75 tastiest and most healthy places to eat in New York, I decided to let Chipotle back into my stomach.  And just like a soda after months in the desert, it was oh so good.  I had a carnitas burrito with pinot beans and all the fixing.  To my surprise, the burrito was bigger than the last time I had one.  Years ago 'chip chip' burritos were the size of a premature baby but the shrunk for a bit to save costs.  Now, I think they are growing again.  Can't be happier about that.
    I sat down moments later and devoured the whole thing with minimal talking between bites.  It was an all engrossing burrito. A little pricey but so worth it.  Just confirms why half my office eats there daily.

  4. Oh my God. What can I say. Chipotle is my favorite part of the work day. Actually, everyday.

    The Barbaoca burrito bowl is my go to. It's insanely addictive and delicious. Not to mention the guacamole is great.

    There's usually a line, so come when you a have some time to spare.

I've never understood the big deal about Chipotle, but when I'm out of my Mexican food element (a la California) and know that when someone messes up my Mexican food, it's just no bueno, it makes it easy to pick something that I know will taste the way that I expect it to taste.  Yes, this is how fast food companies have made a mint: it's fast, it's cheap, and it's consistent.  

    I had chicken and beef tacos.  It took me less than ten minutes to walk back to my apartment and yet, upon opening my order, all taco shells were completely split and soggy in the middle.  The flavor was okay, overall, but not near noteworthy.

    And what do they put on those chips?  Is it a lime salt?  Whatever it is, it's overpowering.  It could be that I'm just a wimp when it come to salt – it's everywhere and I bitch when I can actually taste too much of it.

    Oh!  One more thing.  I will say that the guacamole was pretty tasty – I think they put some sort of citrus in there, and it works.

  6. Not all Chipotle's are created equal.

    I love the Chipotle back at school because it's good, fast, and relatively cheap. Unfortunately, the only similar characteristic about this branch is that it's relatively fast. The lunch line was out the door, but they still managed. My biggest concern was the quality of ingredients. I know Chipotle prides themselves on this, but sadly, the tomatoes and corn in the salsas were unripe and hard to eat. Also, while this is a pro for me, most people generally don't like their steak raw, which is what I was eating. The centers of the steak were still cold, darkish red/brown, and uncooked. The meat also had a lot more fibers than usual and was tough to get through.

    Couple other notes: because the line is so long, they go fast, meaning know what you want right away. I have a system I like to use at school to try and get the most for my money: had no time to implement it here. Also, it's more expensive! My burrito bowl was a whole two more dollars.

    While I'm still new to the area and scoping out a good lunch place, I probably won't be back soon unless I'm dying from hunger (which is nearly impossible due to the number of lunch places/carts in the area.

  7. The Varick Street location is, in my humble opinion, the prototypical New York Chipotle.

    Most others I've been to have customers snaking throughout the entire restaurant so that, despite actual seating, no one's gonna want to sit there. This one, in relation, has two things going for it that put it head and shoulders above its brethren:

    1) This Chipotle's got space for days. Not only does the line barely interrupt customers eating in, but there is an ample amount of seats without the set-up feeling cramped. This is more seating I've seen than in some suburban Chips.

    2) Do not fear the long lines during the lunch hours! Not only does it (for the most part) hug the wall right where you enter the establishment, but this staff is fast as hell! So fast you can see the workers actively trying to anticipate your order. It's also important to note that rarely do you see this crew without a smile – very friendly bunch.

    My Chipotle allegiance has been hereby pledged. Anytime I'm cravin' some of those delicious carnitas, I'm headed to Varick in a New York minute.

  8. Regardless of it's lack of authenticity, I enjoy the occasional Chipotle burrito bowl but this location by far is the biggest hot mess of the bunch. I'd honestly say 2.5 stars but I'm rounding up for the sake of Chipotle still being fairly delicious.

    The line is ridiculous at the lunch hour, I am pretty certain that this must be the most popular place on Varick St. in the South Village to grab food during the week. the line was around the entire restaurant last time I was there. Although it doesn't sound like it, I have a ton of patience, so as long as I'm prepared for a crazy line I don't mind but when I got up to the kitchen I lost some of it. The amount of meat and toppings that I got in the bowl were significantly less than any other Chipotle location I've ever been to but there were so many people and everything was so hectic it was tough to request more food without holding up the line. The bowl was flying down the preparation belt at lightning speed. So anyway, definitely didn't get my money's worth of beef but it was still hot and tasty.

    The place itself is far too small for the amount of people they have coming in and out, but it's still larger than most Chipotles. Another drawback, if you are staying a while just know the bathrooms need to be unlocked by staff, which is another big inconvenience because they are so busy they don't have time to stop and realize you're standing there looking to use the bathroom.

    Conclusion – only come to this location out of complete desperation…as in you are in the South Village, about to die, don't want to spend $20 on mediocre food truck food and need to indulge in a moderately sized heap of guacamole absolutely/immediately.
