Chivito De Oro

“All their meats; chorizo, short ribs, steaks, everything is just scrumptious and like heaven in your mouth.”

“The chimichurri was really good both on the steak and on the terrific baked bread that accompanied the meal.”

  1. MEAT MEAT MEAT! This place specializes in grilled meats and they do all kinds from veal to beef to sausage to sweet breads (pancreas)! If you're a carnivore then you need to be here. I came Bc a close friend of mine recommended it to me and I was not disappointed!

We came on a Sunday evening around 8 pm and the place was loud and busy with soccer fans (if you want to catch a game and eat some great food this a good place). But despite the dinner rush he were seated in less than 2 minutes and we were greeted promptly and nicely. Our waiter was nice and overall service was excellent.

As for the food we ordered the Parillada for 2. This was a huge plate of mixed grilled meats that are freshly grilled to perfection 10 feet away from us. The dish included beef steak, sweet bread, sausage, blood sausage, and veal steak. Eat cut of meat was grilled and seasoned to perfection. Super tender melt in your mouth and juicy. The blood sausage was amazing! This was my first time trying the sweet bread and it was good as well. Creamy tasted with the texture of pork. Along with our main course we also get 2 complementary sides so we ordered the sauté spinach and tostones (fried plantains) both were great.

There was definitely more food than we could handle and for all that food it was super cheap. Next time I think we will just go with the grilled special for 1, it would be more than enough.

Overall Chivitos de oro was a great experience with some awesome food. I will come back to satisfy my carnivorous cravings again!

  2. Absolutely LOVE this place! Went on a limb and ordered the entrania and the chorizo. It was absolutely amazing, so JUICY and flavorful and it was amazing!!!

The bread they served in the beginning was so soft and delicious we had to ask for more!

Overall I've never had meat this good and would DEFINITELY return!

  3. I've grown up around Jackson heights and all the different Latin American cuisine. My BF loves this place now lol. There staff is great and the food is fresh and fast. BTW their sangria is on point!

  4. Although the service was good, I found the restaurant rather understaffed.  I mean it was a fully packed place, and sometimes I wanted to order more, but I couldn't flag down a waitress easily.  One plus: I found the portions decent.  Another upside was that I enjoyed my time here.  I saw that the place was family friendly, date friendly, and just a great spot for hangout with a huge group of people.  It was tremendously busy, so I could have eaten my heart out, but I ended up just leaving early.   I must note that the waitresses were really attentive and warm when they were taking orders but then they disappeared once you placed the order.

  5. Wow, wow, wow. This is a place you go when you are really fucking hungry. If you are a vegetarian stay the hell away. If you don't eat red meat 1. You probably don't have a soul and 2. You need to stay away too!

I am picky when it comes to parrillada! I am incredibly blessed to be married to a Uruguayan whose parents make the best churrasco and chimichurri! I have eaten plenty of Uruguayan food, both bad and good. That being said, this place blew my mind.

My party ordered the chivito de oro combo for 2 which included sausages, veal, matambre and beef. I usually hate matambre but I'd go back for it. Everything was cooked perfectly. The chimichurri was on point. If you like spicy ask for their hot sauces. Both are home made and everyone I was with agreed that it was the perfect amount of heat and flavor.

So glad I finally got to visit! A word of advice, if you come on a Saturday evening be prepared for a long, but well worth it, wait!

  6. Service is okay. Portions are generous. Parrillada was good but not the best I have ever had. I would chalk it up to the quality of the meat rather than the preparation…seemed a little bland. Maybe just a bad batch? Fries look like they come frozen out of a bag in the frozen foods aisle. Much more authentic than pricier joints in or closer to Manhattan will run you. We were out in the neighborhood so we figured we'd try this place…would not be worth the trip from Manhattan on its own. Seems frequented by regulars and families. Had Quilmes but only ONE last bottle, and it was warm. Can't win 'em all.

  7. I was attracted by the parrillada here, but when I ordered it I felt disappointed. A lot of the meat was burn, and others were tasteless. Nevertheless, the size was very large: we have two people and we didn't finish a parrillada for one, and the Russian salad was not bad.

  8. One time I was watching the Uruguay episode of "No Reservations" and long story short, the promise of a big pot of grilled meat and a delicious looking sandwich brought me here. This place will bring out your inner glutton but you need to let it happen. The service is friendly, patrons are native Spanish speakers (my companion and I were the only non Spanish speaking diners there that night), and they were playing World Cup highlights on their TV's. Felt pretty authentic to me.

Note: I'm usually pretty diligent when reading the menu, but we were so excited at the sight of that mixed grill pot on everyone's tables that we ordered it without knowing exactly what it entailed. Everything was tasty, including the "mystery bouncy meat" which we later discovered was sweetbread. There was also blood sausage but neither of us were really into it. The rest of the meat (pork chops, regular sausage, short ribs) was deliciously filling and we ended up only having a few bites of the incredible chivito sandwich.

Get your elastic sweatpants ready and brave the 7 train for this one, it's worth a visit. Come hungry.
