  1. The sushi here is okay, I'm not sure what all the rave reviews are about. I would say – menu is very standard, nothing is particurly exciting. Some rolls were not formed very well, and would fall apart very easy. I won't be back, but the staff are super duper nice!!

  2. I celebrated my birthday here with six friends on a Friday evening. We ordered a variety of sushi and sushi rolls and it took over 45 minutes to get our sushi order. But, the one person in our party who ordered an entree received their food after 20 minutes, creating a rather awkward situation.

    In the end, we all wanted to order more food, but didn't want to wait for another hour, so we left.

    The sushi itself was underwhelming at best, and some had a strange flavor. The one stand out was the Cho Cho San roll which was wonderful.

    I would only come back to this restaurant for drinks. We got bottles of Prosecco for $25 a piece, which is quite the steal for NYC.

  3. If you're craving late night sushi in the area, this is a cute place to get it. Both the Salmon Avocado and Shrimp Avocado rolls were tasty, though the rice was a bit too fluffy. Skip the cocktails, though. The Lychee Martini is just sugar water.

  4. Nice, comfortable, warmly lit restaurant. The back area was a simple place to sit.

    This place was more Americanized Japanese cuisine than traditional. The menu consisted of typical selections of sushi, sashimi, rolls, noodles, and dons.

    The salad that came with the meal was a mix of greens and iceberg lettuce with a tart, sharp Japanese ginger dressing.

    The meal soup was ordinary white miso.

    The shrimp and vegetable tempura was a bit oilier than expected, the dipping sauce much darker and saltier but good enough.

    The rainbow roll was decent. I liked the California roll inside and the tobiko on top of the roll, but there wasn't much variation in fish.

    The sushi, sashimi platter was okay. More variety of fish was needed as well. There were some garnishments that seemed out of place on the dish; such as the use of shredded onions with wakame, or orange slices near a mix of radish and carrot slivers.

    Overall, Cho Cho San was ordinary. Not great, not terrible, an average, filling meal. Not very satisfying, the food completely lacked interest or excitement.

  5. This review is for take-out: These guys are top notch! Salads are beautiful (see pic) and sushi is delish.  They are willing to correct mistakes if they happen and they're very nice.

    EDIT: I have now visited Cho Cho San in person and can say their dining area is way nicer then I expected! It really is nice feeling and there is even a large room in the back (possibly for private parties?). Food was good as always.

  6. The quality of the sushi and sashimi here was pretty decent. And the "all can you drink" sake deal for $10 is tough to beat, even though it's among the lowest grade sake on the planet.

    The service was unbearably slow. The restaurant was empty on a Thursday night at 6pm when I came here with a friend. We got a couple rolls and pieces of sashimi among the two of us. They ended up taking about 45 minutes to bring out our orders. About halfway into that 45 minutes, they asked us if we wanted the regular sized rolls or the happy hour sized ones. Really? You mean, you guys didn't even start making it??

  7. This is the type of restaurant that you easily forget after going there once but don't mind coming back here again.

    We came here on a Tuesday night and this place was nearly empty the entire night.

    I had the beef donburi for my entree and that was overly sweet. We also ordered a bunch of other little dishes and tried their desserts. And nothing really stood out.

    Service was decent. And they have a all you can drink sake deal for 10 bucks.

    Overall again. I don't mind coming back again but than nothing really stood out with this place

  8. It's a nice place, lots of wood tables/nice atmosphere (not too fancy). I had the spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and squash/pickled vegetable rolls. The spicy tuna wasn't spicy at all, and had a weird texture, maybe ground up in some way? Shrimp tempura was nice, and the squash/picked veggie rolls were a nice compliment. Temperature of the rice was good, and so was the presentation. The soy sauce on our table was WAY too salty – I usually see the lower sodium option but I didn't this time. Ginger was fresh and likewise, the wasabi. Good for the price!
