Cho Dang Gol Korean Restaurant
“However, my favorite items are the CDG buk-uh gui (pan-seared marinated dried pollack) and their kong biji (ground soybean stew.)”
“The galbi jjim fell off the bone and there were small amounts of pumpkin cooked with it.”
“Yes, BCD is good, but for a little premium, you can take pleasure in a heartily homespun delight here at Cho Dang Gol.”

Cho Dang Gol offers your typical traditional Korean cuisine. The space gives off a homey feel, but the prices are slightly higher than you'd expect. Overall, the food is decent, but there are other options in the area.
Quite good if you know what to order! Luckily I went there with a pro and we tried an assortment of soups, broths, ribs, etc. Very authentic feel and good food although nothing was so memorable.
I like Cho Dang Gol. It's never too crowded, it's good Korean BBQ, and they have the service button that you push if you need something (which is a genius invention by the way). I've come here many times–most of which are normally when I'm just trying to plan a casual get together with my friends, and don't feel like waiting for a table at any of the places on the main Ktown street. Once you're here, it's just like any other Korean joint–get the seafood pancake, order some galbi and chow down.
Came here for a quick lunch since we were staying in a hotel nearby. But what we should have done was walk down a little further and went to the many restaurants in Koreantown!
Anyways, lunch at Cho Dang was packed with people on a weekday. They offer mainly tofu soups/stew on their lunch menu that comes with the regular banchan spread and their special housemade tofu! The items on the regular menu are a little pricier in my opinion… $20 for a dol sot bibimbap is a little much.
We ordered their lunch special spicy beef stew and the bulgogi ddeokbokki (beef rice cake). It was a lot of food for two people! The dishes were good, but nothing that I hadn't had before so it was A-OK. However, we did enjoy the complimentary buchu pancake that came with the yelp check-in. Basic ingredients, but the pancake was pretty delicious, probably the highlight of the meal. And service was surprisingly good…for an Asian restaurant (usually the old ladies can be mean lol).
We had a feast here starting with some free pancake (thank you yelp), some side dish, tofu and their slow cook beef entree.
Lets start with complains, the hostess needs to step up their work. They let someone reserve table to skip us. First they didn't reserve the table for someone who reserved table is unacceptable. Second to skip customers to make up for their mistake is a double mistake. We weren't happy after being told 5 minutes ended up with 30 minute wait.
Here is when the food make up for all the bad. I enjoy their side dish over many places on 32nd street. They are flavorful and different. We have their casserole which is smaller and I would put it second after Miss Korea's. The best is their slow cook short ribs which is a little spicy but heavenly. it's a must try.
Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely come back again.
Unfortunately, I have to downgrade CDG.
I had a really bad experience tonight and I could tell the quality has decreased exponentially.
Why?
The banchan was just ok and not refilled. The service was SLOW. I ordered the squid entree and it was obscenely overpriced, overcooked, chewy, unpalatable and NOT spicy even though I ordered Hot (the sauce they gave me didn't make it any better).
Spouse ordered the kimchee jiggae and like my soondoobo from last time he had a couple pieces of meat (I had 1 shrimp in mine). They skimp on meat/fish in their soups. One to two pieces at best.
There were so many other reasons why I don't plan to return. Even though I love BCD Tofu House in Flushing… I will go to the Manhattan location of BCD over CDG from now on.
Obscenely overpriced. The banchan was all pretty salty. My favorite one was the pancake. There was no wait around 6PM on Monday but by the time we left a little before 7, a line had formed.
Seafood soondubu ($15) – By "seafood" they mean 1 shrimp and 2 mussels.
Potato and butternut squash pancake ($18) – How in the world does a pancake that consists of just potato, butternut squash, and flour cost so much? They literally just grated the veggies and fried it up. I get that this is NYC but bro, come on.
Galbi ($33) – Portion was incredibly tiny. The best part about eating galbi for me is gnawing on the bone. I was so disappointed to see that this place cuts the meat off the flavorful bone and only leaves you with 2 bone pieces.
The food was decently tasty but nowhere near worth the price.
[TIP] Check in on Yelp to get 1 free chive pancake.
If you purchase the $30 for $40 credit deal on Yelp, they don't let you redeem the pancake offer.
Cho Dang Gol is a Korean restaurant in midtown Korea town. They specialize in homemade tofu.
I came for dinner on a Saturday night without a reservation and got seated immediately. The restaurant is bustling with servers running around and noisy tables. They are busy and almost every table was filled. Bigger groups might have to wait.
They started us off with a small piece of homemade tofu. It's soft, warm, and ridiculously good. The side dishes are amazing as well. The kimchi is nicely fermented and I couldn't get enough of the spicy soybean sprouts. Do ask for more. I had three refills of side dishes during my meal. I ordered the mountain tofu bibimbap (literally 'mixed rice', $19 for the dish). It comes with rice that is made in the hot pot. Ant to top it off, a small glass sikhye (sweet rice dessert drink). I can't wait to come back for more. Don't be discouraged by the prices — they include all the extra goodies (tofu appetizer, side dishes, dessert, etc).
Tip: Check in to Yelp and you'll get a free buchu pancake!
