Tacos. Legit.
Bodega atmosphere if you're dining in, but really excellent food. We tried the tacos cholulita with cecina ($10.50 for 3). Seems steep, but these tacos are LOADED with toppings. The beef was very salty (as expected) and the green sauce was definitely a sinus cleaner. Chicken tacos were also very flavorful.
Definitely my favorite Mexican spot under the JMZ.
A great example of one my favorite types of restaurants in New York – the expanded Mexican deli. This place has long served food out of its bodega counter. At some point, they decided to put in a series of actual dining tables, although not, it is important to add at the expense of their merchandise.
So as long as you are comfortable dining around bottles of soda and imported Mexican candy, you're in for a treat. The great sandwiches, tacos and sopes that come out of the kitchen are amply sized and spiced. And of course, the cost for this feast under the J train is quite nominal.
An all and all quite wonderful experience.
Wow, after living in the Middle East for a year it's such a treat it come back to excellent Mexican food here. Cholulita blows the competition in the area away. Everything is super fresh here, and they get everything you order correct. The salsas are all fresh and when you ask for the picante it is picante. I stuck mostly with chorizo and longaniza, but I'd be willing to bet everything on their menu is excellent. It's also a tienda, like we have in the South where it is both a small restaurant, as well as great Mexican grocery. This is a really impressive place.
