I used to visit Krolewskie Jadlo exclusively (newbie status) but this spot is now on the list for breakfast and lunch (I'll leave KJ to cover Polska-dinner). I met a friend here for a Saturday breakfast and ordered Christina's Omelette. So many places that advertise avocado in their meals usually give a teaser of a portion but this omelette was loaded up nicely and the waitresses were very attentive. Will definitely return 🙂
We ate lunch there yesterday and the service was much worse than during our previous visits, therefore I'm downgrading my rating from five to four stars. We arrived at 1:15 p.m. and only about 3/4 of the tables were occupied – and besides which, the restaurant wasn't short-staffed. We finally had to waylay one of the servers in order to place our order and then it took eons to get our food. No one ever checked back with us during our meal, plus we had to finally ask for the check. Unlike our previous experiences, there was no warmth whatsoever from the servers (all of whom we recognized, meaning they *are* capable of being friendly).
The food was still really good, so we'll undoubtedly return.
LOVE THIS PLACE! It is underrated for sure…. and this is truly a shame. As others have mentioned, you get a great deal of food for an amazing price. The food is delicious and the portions are generous – try the bigos – truly delightful!!! My sister and I really enjoyed the place and although it is small, the service is great and the food comes out quick and fresh in no time. I will make the trip to Greenpoint specifically to stop by here again someone…..soooo worth it 🙂
Oooooh my the polish platter is phenomenal!!! Who cares about ambiance when you've got a plate of home cooked meat potatoes fried dumplings (pierogies) and cabbage yuuuuuummmyyy. If you want a no frills hearty meal without a wait or a pretentious host go go gooooo to christinas. The beet salad is amazing too.
This was the place my Polish friend took me to when I wanted to try authentic Polish food. It reminds me of a diner-Polish style with booths and pictures. They serve all types of Eastern European comfort food. I have to admit I wasn't courageous enough to order pig knuckles but I did order boiled mushroom and fried meat pierogies which were phenomenal. Of course all the butter gave the pierogies an amazing taste, the fried ones were nice and crispy and the boiled ones were quite hearty. My friend ordered boiled string beans with bread crumbs and breaded chicken which I found hilarious since my roommate's bf is Polish and he always cooks boiled string beans with bread crumbs. I tried her food which was delicious and the portions were big enough for leftovers. My only complaint is that the pierogies were a bit overpriced considering pierogies are the sisters of dumplings but it made my stomach so happy that I would go back and order the same dishes.
Had the French Toast on Brioche. Really tasty. Sausage was also good. Very good coffee, and I loved that they had a restroom for customers in such a tiny place, thank you, that means a lot in New York. Very affordable too.
I really loved this restaurant. My mother was visiting from out of town, and we originally had planned to go to Karczma. However, we were not received very politely upon our attempt to enter the restaurant and place ourselves on the waiting list for a table. Because this was the second time I'd had a rude welcoming at Karczma, I decided it was in our best interests to support a business that actually wanted to take our money.
The interior of this restaurant is cozy and dim-lit. I have an anxiety about being seated at a table in the middle of just about any restaurant, which happened here, but it was spacious enough not to feel as if we were on top of the table next to us. The atmosphere is casual and the noise level is comfortable.
I had an order of potato and cheese pierogies, which I would rank on the favorable end of the pierogies I've had from various Polish restaurants. The same goes for their kielbasa and mashed potatoes. Oh, and their prices are very reasonable.
Their wine, although limited in selection, is tasteful. Unless you're extremely picky about your whites, you probably won't have any complaints about what they have to offer.
The only reason I took a star away is because the service was extremely, extremely slow. For some reason, it's something I've come to expect as typical of a Polish restaurant, but I did become a little impatient here. However, they were busy, and I got over it, and the waitress was also very nice to us, so it's not a dealbreaker. I would come here again!
This was an adventure….never taken the G before, it was an ok area though.
I went here a couple of weeks ago with friends for our monthly dinner get together. We were planning on going to this other place down the street, but they couldn't accommodate a group, so we walked along until we found this place. It was roomy, but not too full.
First things first…the wait staff was cute, and very pleasant. We couldn't pronounce anything, and they were all very patient with us. We ordered several of each of the PINT beers which were only like $4 or $5 (good considering they were $2 in the store, not much of a mark up).
I can't say that the food was great, it was ok…not expensive at all…Tell you the truth, I can't remember at ALL what I had…some meat thing, but I remember it being pretty devoid of flavour…..but that could have been the 3 beers I had consumed while waiting for it.
Service was pretty quick, maybe a twenty minute wait or so for food, and we were a group of thirteen people. They were very accomodating, and didn't mind that we were pretty loud (although not obnoxious). They added a service charge, but it was very reasonable.
I would go back, and defintely try something else on their menu. We didn't get to try to blintzes because they closed the kitchen while we were there (pretty late), so no hope there.
Good times though.
