With Cinco de Mayo coming up I figured it was time I reviewed Cinco De Mayo.
Nice little hole in the wall place with 8 tables some baked goods (breads, desserts, etc.) They also have dried herbs for your cooking needs.
I have been here numerous times for lunch and tonight had delivery. The food has been spot on. Their delivery cannot be beat, they quoted us 30 minutes, the food came in that time frame still hot. (From a delivery boy on a bicycle, you can't make this up that is how close I live)
The prices are very reasonable (under $10 for most meals). Any Mexican place I go to my first try is their tacos, if they are good, I will try something else. My taco favorite is the Tacos campechanos which is two choices of meat together (I had steak and chorizo).
Tonight we ordered delivery for the first time. I wanted something sort of light, so I went with the enchiladas with the poblano mole. It was delicious with just the right amount of heat. My wife went with the Chimichangas with steak. It was huge and served with guacamole, rice and salad. We also had the maduros.
Hope you know a little Spanish or can wing it because English is limited, even on the menu. The TV even has Spanish novellas playing on Telemundo.
Got flautas. Pretty good. Probably would have been better if I put the sauce on it. But I didn't. This place is also a bakery and it gives it this particular vibe you won't get anywhere else.
I really felt like I was in Mexico.
The decor wasn't all Applebees and expensive, I felt like I was in El Desperado.
But I didn't walk away from any explosions.
Mexican doesn't do anything bad to my stomach.
Tacos carnita was horrible — chunks of meat, not sure if it was pork. Good salsa and chips and good cilantro sauce. Cafe com leche lacked robustness and the overall feel of the place teeters on too dingy for licensing. Lots of "food" for the buck, it just wasn't good quality or tasteful. Oh boy, hope I don't get sick.
Fresh and excellent Mexican food. I would stick to ordering off of the menu as much as possible, substitutions come off not as we'll as regular menu items. The menu is mostly in Spanish, and ordering delivery in English is a little hard, but totally doable with some patience on both ends of the phone.
