  1. What's the main thing that brings on a low-star review? Is it the taste of the food? Is it the ambiance? All of these can honestly be fixed, but the one thing that can't is BAD SERVICE!

A couple friends of and I stopped by City Diner in the wee hours of the morning. It wasn't crowded at all, but after walking in it took quite some time for anybody to even acknowledge us so that we could be seated. Once we were seated our waitress came over who was very nice. She stated that she would be leaving soon, but she was going to start our order and the other waitress would finish it up. This is fine.

We waited very patiently for our food and after some time our 3:30am plates arrived. The food was good. Burger was cooked well and no complaints overall on my plate. We had one refill of water the whole time we sat at the table and after our food was brought out we honestly had no other interaction with a staff member for a very long time. There were no refills of water, no check-in to see how the food was, and not even an annoying "can i take your plate" before your plate is actually cleaned. We waited quite some time searching for our waitress or her replacement (who we never met) and neither were to be found. Eventually we were able to wave down a waiter who passed us by several times and were finally able to pay and leave for the night.

Diners should be prepped and able to take care of the late night patrons because that's one of their best appeals, but this one showed they were not capable of doing so. Next time (if there is a next time) I'd like to just place my order and pick it up myself from the kitchen window. Might as well cut out the middle man if they're not going to do their part.

  2. Like it, but don't love it. I've ordered from this place multiple times for delivery/take out and once for sit down. Though it's a diner, I don't get a diner feel from the place. The place was a little too bright…not necessarily a bad thing just not how I think a diner should be. Anyway, the food here is solid. I've gotten the blackened chicken with avocado wrap, the mushroom Swiss burger and the chicken salad wrap. The best is the first item listed. Their burgers are okay, nothing incredible and same with their chicken salad wrap. What I really want to try is their shakes. They look heavenly!

Service is pretty good. Their delivery time is quick as well, half an hour at max. Not a bad place for a quick bite.

  3. The Quick: Just a good diner. A little nicer than your average greasy spoon, the food was delicious and quick. Overall a good experience. Expect crowds during lunch and breakfast hours.

  4. This place was my saving grace during a lengthy business stay in corporate apartments. I've never ordered food via Yelp and was a bit nervous there would be issues. With 2 and 1-year-old hangry boys, I was pleasantly surprised when the delivery guy from the diner arrived with my food earlier than expected.

Not only were the prices pretty good, but the portions were humongous. Seriously, if you love a huge plate of food, you might want to come here. I believe I ordered some sort of chicken tenders that wasn't a huge hit with my tots. (Maybe it was supposed to taste "healthy.") The sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes, however, were damn delicious. I ordered a breakfast spread the following morning that included turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, and pancakes. It was super tasty, and fed four people! (Those pancakes were like the size of a butt check, no joke.)

I think they do better with breakfast food, but that's just my experience.

  5. Came around midnight with a group and got the buffalo fries… Delicious!! The sauce was buffalo with bits of blue cheese and I even added some Tabasco sauce for an added kick. Immediately regretted that decision in the best way possible. Fast friendly service. Clean bathrooms.

  6. Came here after Soulcycle for a quick solo brunch.  Met an adorable couple and chatted about the nabe & other random stuff.  Food was great and company was pleasant.  Great experience again.

  7. Had breakfast here twice on a recent trip to Jersey City.  Good place for the single diner.  I was reluctant to go there, because it looks more like a bar, but the breakfast was quite good.

  8. Ordered the food thru Yelp, 2 hours later the food never arrived. I cancelled the order and 15 minutes later it arrived. It was already too late, kids were in bed and slept without eating.
