Great beer selection but maybe a $1 a glass too expensive being that you're in the Atlantic Highlands. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly enough but didn't have much to say about the beers. The place is nicely done for an Irish style pub. When we were there (around 7 on a Saturday) there wasn't much of a crowd but I could see it livening up later in the night once the band comes on.
Onto the food- definitely a disappointment. First I ordered potato soup. It came out lukewarm and with a film on top as if it had been sitting. I was hungry and rarely send food back so I stirred it and ate it anyways. I ordered a grilled cheese too and that came out lukewarm as well and the cheese was starting to harden up again as if that had been sitting out too. The amount of cheese was so skimpy it was laughable. Thick bread and what looked like one thin piece of cheese in between.
Husband ordered fish and chips and had the same experience. Food was lukewarm. This leaves me to believe our food had been sitting in the back for at least a few minutes before the bartender brought it to us. His fish portion was tiny. It was one little fried piece of fish and a skimpy amount of fries.
So- I am somewhere between a 2 and a 3 with this place. Food is a 1 or 2 but the place itself is a 3 and the beer menu is a plus. I'm going with 2 because the food was just so subpar. To call yourself a pub you have to at least have average to good food that comes out hot and fresh.
