and up comes Clementine
oh my darling …ignore my cliche
its a little shop with seating for about 8-10 inside
cases in front filled with yummy looking baked goods of which I see gluten free options
super friendly guy takes my order
tells me all is good but try the reuben

go here and eat hearty
sandwiches at about 10 bucks is fine
Coffee is consistently good. Sandwiches are really great. Not a huge fan of any of the cupcakes I've tried. Brownies are decent. Cute spot. Cool location. Staff is always exceptionally pleasant.
"Oh my darling! Oh my darling ! Oh my darling Clementine!" Huckleberry Hound
Those are my thoughts exactly when I think of Clementine Bakery! It's is my vegan oasis in Clinton Hill. Clinton Hill is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn for its green foliage, many pup residents and its hidden foodie spots.
My vegan friend told me awhile back that if I liked Red Lantern Bicycles I have to try Clementine Bakery. It's a quick little bus ride from my Detroit like home of Bushwick.
I arrive this particular weekend with tons of punks covering the front patio seating. There's a punk festival this weekend and veganism is a popular life style choice.
I decide on the B.L.A.T. Sandwich, an iced coffee with room and a pb blondie. The sandwich is a nice, flavorful later of tempeh bacon, vegenaise, crispy lettuce, juicy tomatoes and avocado (my favorite). The bread is perfectly toasted. This sandwich has become my most recent obsession. I have returned for said sandwich and I can smell another one in my near future….maybe tomorrow.
My older brother refuses to venture to vegan places with me. He says there is nothing for him to eat. But when I met up with him later he couldn't stop eating the pb blondie. I swear you would never be able to tell there was NO BUTTER in this beautiful baked good.
This place is seriously incredible. A Yelpers job is tough when you want to keep a place all to yourself but it's all about the sharing and helping those small businesses we love.
I also have to mention I love the coffee sleeves covered in cats, girly accents and treats. I want a tote or tee shirt with this design…bad! Please Clementine, get this printed on something soon!
The Clementine Bakery is my favorite place to get breakfast from if I don't feel like going to an actual restaurant for breakfast and I don't want to make it myself. The place is tiny but really really cute and they make great coffee, tea and hot chocolate and have every milk option that you could possibly think of! I'm lactose intolerant so that maters a lot to me. I've had their regular latte, their pumpkin spiced latte around fall and recently their chai tea latte all with almond milk and they've all been amazing. My boyfriend always gets the hot chocolate and he loves it. I have yet to try their scones but I've had their cinnamon buns and their rosemary rolls multiple times and they're great. I want to try their vegan ice cream as well it's probably amazing! They also make homemade dog treats, which my little Riley loves. The staff is very friendly and no matter how busy they are, they're always super busy when I stop in, they always get your order correct and are always very nice and happy. If you're in the neighborhood and want a great breakfast you should stop in!
Another solid time at Clementines. Had the grilled cheese and added on a tomato. The vegan cheese always tastes a little industrial, but that's nothing to knock them on – it's just how the stuff tastes. Still a big fan of the bread. Toasted and well seasoned.
No up-charge for the almond, coconut, or soy milk for the coffees, which sounds like a stupid thing to be happy about, but so many other coffee spots make you feel like you have a disability when you need a different milk. It's nice to not be charged extra because of a food allergy.
This place is great! My absolute faves are:
-Vegan + gluten free sammiches: personally go for the BLAT with tempeh "bacon," tomato, crispy lettuce, avocado and vegan mayo.
-Iced coffee with a splash of almond milk and agave nectar.
-Gluten free bagels (the best–not those rock hard ones) with tofu cream cheese.
I don't personally love the GF baked goods but will definitely spend the cash monayz on the sammiches and bagels!
Gotta come on the weekend and get cinnamon roll or biscuits and gravy.
Everything is outstanding and super fresh.
Because everything is so fresh service can take a little while and they do occasionally run out of items.
I was tasked with introducing some friends to their first vegan desserts and, feeling the pressure to make a good impression, let Yelp lead the way to one of the best in Brooklyn. I found myself at Clementine, a tiny but homey bakery in Fort Greene where they apparently do vegan baked goods right. The man at the counter amicably accepted my challenge when I all but said, "Box up whatever you think is yummy" and packed me two boxes full of goodies.
It was a long drive back to my friends' place and I figured, 'What better way to enjoy the ride than to enjoy some sweet treats? I first dug into the salted chocolate chip cookies, which he described as "gluten-free without any of that weird GF aftertaste". If you've ever tried bad gluten-free cookies, I'm sure you'll understand why I was dubious, but I found these to be lovely – crumbly yet not dry, and just a hint of occasional saltiness so that your mouth is never overwhelmed with the sweet chocolate. I also broke off a brownie piece, with high expectations after someone had written that this brownie had "changed [her] life". I would respectfully disagree – this wasn't the very best brownie I've ever had (vegan or non). In fact, it was quite hard and only the very middle had any of the fudgy moistness that I personally enjoy in a brownie. Still, I attributed a lot of the textural disappointment to the fact that I bought these at nearly 5:30 in the afternoon, which was probably long after its infernal trip in the oven. Because the chocolatey taste was so spot on, I imagine these would be far better earlier on in the day, right after they've been baked.
The last one I tried was the peanut butter and jelly bar, which the guy at Clementine announced was his personal favorite. I enjoyed this particular dessert with friends (I did leave SOMEthing to share), and when my newly vegan friend had his first bite, his eyes fluttered shut as he moaned, "This is exactly what I imagine pb&j would taste like as a dessert." A decadent layer of peanut butter cream sits on top of a buttery-tasting crumble layer and then the whole thing is given a light smear of grape jelly. This is sold in thinner slices, and once I tasted how rich and intense it was, I was thankful for the smaller serving, lest I eat too much of it and get knocked out into a sugary stupor.
I loved how warm and friendly the bakery felt and could easily imagine myself coming back to try more of the more savory items (I saw a couple enjoying some delicious looking vegan grilled cheese sandwiches and really had to hold myself back). Some of the desserts were a little stale and clearly past their prime, but even then, they tasted delicious enough that I'd be willing to come back and try them fresh.
