Went here after work for open mike night. The patrons here seem to all know one another and all of the performers were very talented. The music was great! If you're just going here to listen to the music then you're fine but if you're wanting to have a decent meal along with the entertainment then this is where they fall short. The food here is a mix of Middle Eastern/American bar food. We ordered a variety of appetizers to share and I was pretty disappointed with pretty much all of the food. The chicken tenders were limp and seemed to have been recently microwaved. We had chocolate cake for dessert and that was the only food item I actually enjoyed. They do have good drink specials during happy hour so that's a plus. If you like jazz then stop by for the music and drinks but skip the food.
Came here with a date. Gave it a good hour and 15 minutes. No music. Staff was also non-existent. We were hoping they were maybe having an off night.
I wanted to like Cleopatra's Needle but I was a bit underwhelmed by it. What saves this place from falling into the abyss is the friendly staff, the strong drinks, and the live music. What doesn't work for me is the layout and the vibe.
I don't know what to make of Cleopatra's. The seating arrangement by the bar is awkward – with a whole row of stools facing the wall. The layout seems to support antisocial people (at a bar?) than the social ones. There isn't enough room for people to turn around and engage with others on the opposite side (facing the bar) yet the seats are so close together that I was practically sitting on top of my coworkers.
I think I shall veer off Broadway to Amsterdam or Columbus next time.
We love this place. We're from out of town but like to visit Cleopatra's Needle for a drink and some music since we usually stay on the Upper West Side. We've never eaten here but the drinks are good, the jazz is good and the service is good. No cover and you can usually find a place to sit even on busy weekends.
Favorite place for Jazz music and Irish whiskey.
The only upside to this place is the live jazz band. Other than that, nothing really is worth visiting. Food was bland, alcoholic beverages quite expensive and ambiance – blah.
Late-night spot in the Upper West Side … not my ideal scene – a bit dark when you first walk in. Service is pretty consistent though, and they do have live bands performing. They have quite a variety of alcohol/coffee drinks (Irish Coffee, etc.) on the drink list, as well as a bunch of frozen cocktails available. Good place to stop by – fast service – just wouldn't want to hang out for a full evening.
Cute little jazz restaurant on the UWS.
Food is a bit overpriced for the price but the music makes up for it.
