Clinton Street Baking Company
“Friend and I ordered southern breakfast and blueberry pancakes – we cleaned our plates.”
“I agree that a 2 hour wait is ridiculous, so I propose they buy out the empty Thai place next door and just knock down the wall.”
“They're fluffly, buttery, FILLED and TOPPED with blueberries, and goes insanely well with their homemade maple butter syrup.”

This is as GOOD as it can get. Please add this to your itinerary if you're venturing out to NYC.
Just note that this place is CASH ONLY.
Let's talk about their pancakes because I'm not a huge pancake fan but I would eat these pancakes EVERYDAY. They are seriously, THAT GOOD. I wish I ordered the pancakes here but glad my friend let me steal a few bites.
I, on the other hand ordered the Spanish Scramble as recommended by our barista/waiter. Bite after bite, I only wished I had more. The vegetable to egg ratio was perfect. I wasn't overwhelmed with pieces of vegetables, y'know how those diners make omelettes? (YUCK.)
Definitely give this place a go and GET THEIR PANCAKES.
After seeing 5,001 pictures of their chocolate chunk pancakes on Instagram I knew I had to come here. I split the chocolate chunk pancakes (of course) and the southern breakfast. The pancakes were fluffy and its side of syrup was top notch. The syrup had a maple flavor and made the pancakes melt in your mouth. The southern breakfast came with eggs, cheddar grits, fried green tomatoes and bacon. The eggs were amazing (regular scrambled eggs but they must've added some butter or…who knows what…but either way woah). The grits were solid in taste and consistency. I didn't taste the cheddar, however. The bacon was sugar coated which although inventive was a tad too sweet. The fried tomatoes were okay. The breading was flavorful but the tomatoes were mediocre. I think chunkier slices would've been a better choice.
I was running late to my breakfast meet up and the hostess held the table for my friend until I arrived. I expected them to say too bad considering they don't take reservations. Thumbs up in that regard. I didn't like that they wouldn't seat my friend until I arrived though. If you're saving the seats you may as well let the person sit (and guzzle water to fight off the heat). Also our waitress was MIA for the latter half of our meal.
Lastly they have one bathroom for a room full of people. They really need to add another one.
I'd rate this spot 4.5 stars.
My favorite breakfast/brunch place in the city! The wait is totally worth it. I was here twice in a span of two weeks and both times were fabulous! Thankfully, they have expanded to a second location right down the street to a new, spacious, and brightly-lit space at the intersection of Clinton St and Houston. Of course there is some appeal of dining at the original Clinton Street Baking Co location, but it is really quite a treat to dine in the new spot.
The wait wasn't bad either time I visited, and both were around peak brunch/breakfast time. One wait was about 30 minutes and the other was less (although I had to wait in line for 10-15 minutes before they opened). Also, their online 'wait list' system allows you to put yourself in line, on their list, if you are within a one mile radius. There are plenty of cute cafes (cat cafe!!) in the area if you want to grab a coffee and wait your turn.
Service is friendly, and although the kitchen can get backed up with orders, the wait is well worth it. I've tried the potato pancakes, blueberry/chocolate chip pancakes, scallop eggs benedict (special), chicken and waffles, and the cheese grit side. Basically everything worth trying. I like that they have a good selection of both savory and sweet dishes, so you can find something to satisfy your palate no matter what!
My favorite breakfast entree here has to be the chicken and waffles. I've never tried chicken and waffles before this, but I think their batter is hard to beat! Plus, warm maple butter syrup makes everything taste better. I also really enjoyed the pancakes, although I'd recommend ordering a stack to share instead of having one all to yourself – it can get rather sweet..especially the chocolate chip ones. If you were, or still are, a fan of tater tots, you will love the potato pancakes, which are pretty much adult versions of tater tots. Portions are on the small side, so I would definitely order this to share in addition to your entrees.
Finally, the eggs were poached well and the scallops seared perfectly on the benedict, but I wouldn't say that this is one of their specialties here at Clinton Street Baking Co. You can probably get an equally delicious eggs benedict elsewhere, so I'd recommend ordering something more unique to CSBC when you visit (like the pancakes or chicken and waffle).
I've only had positive experiences here – both with the staff and with the food. I can't wait to be back!
Food here is amazing and their pancakes live up to the hype. One of my biggest gripes is that this place only takes cash. SERIOUSLY? Are you a boba place or something? Nobody carries $40-$50 in cash for brunch and I want my damn points. That part bewilders me and when we came, the kitchen had some delays so our food literally took 30-40 minutes just as long as we had to wait outside. Other than the wait and the cash only part, this place was great, but get it together next time!
Like every other person I've wanted to try this spot for some time… but I have this thing about waiting. I will not wait 1.5 hours for eggs or pancakes. It's just insane to me..lol.
So after waiting 3 years I have finally ventured here on a Monday and only waited 15 mins. YAY!
It has the look of a clean diner… which is lil different from the regular diner… you know what I'm talking about. Our waiter was sweet and super attentive, always a good thing.
We started with the spiked blueberry lemonade. If that was all I got from here I would've been satisfied. Lol! on the table…the brioche french toast w/ bananas and pecans, Blueberry pancakes, side of eggs, bacon, and chicken apple sausage.
Ladies and Gentlemen…I give you breakfast heaven!
My one gripe is that it's cash only… I still don't understand why places do this..me keeping cash out is always a bad thing. But for that lemonade, i'll gladly go to the ATM 🙂
Delicious! I came here for a solo brunch and didn't encounter a wait because I chose to sit at the bar. The server at the bar was super nice and attentive to the few of us up there and was really efficient about ordering. I was tempted to try the famous blueberry pancakes but opted for the banana French toast with pecans and maple butter instead and omg am I glad I did. The French toast was impossibly light and fluffy and though I found the maple butter to be a tad on the sweet side it actually paired perfectly with the dish. I basically inhaled my meal and left feeling beyond satisfied. I would've taken a picture but forgot about that the moment it was placed in front of me. I cannot wait to come back and try something else.
One of the most important information is that it's CASH ONLY!! It is not stated anywhere in the restaurant so better be prepared.
We've arrived around 10am and lucky us, the wait was only 15min. (I would not wait more than 30min for this place)
The three of us ordered eggs benedict (two with ham and one with salmon) plus the famous blueberry pancakes to share. We needed to try them!
Eggs benedict were very average and I would say poor, without a side of greens or potatoes. The muffin that came with the eggs were dry.
Pancakes were good, but I wouldn't say they are the most famous good ones… Note that I am not a pancake foodie so for me were good.
For drinks we've tried the strawberry shake, watermelon lemonade and capucchino. All good.
Overall, nothing that blew is out of the water.
Service was ok.
I've never had the brunch here because I've been scared off by the lines, but I've found the next best thing. One of my favorite things to do in the morning is walk across the Williamsburg Bridge to work and pass by the bakery side of this business (not the sit-down restaurant). It's not nearly as packed though it's still pretty big with plenty of seating. They have coffee, tea, and soooo many delicious baked goods.
It's my tradition to get an iced tea and try a new muffin or scone on the rest of my walk to the office, thus negating any calories I may have burned off from walking in the first place. Sure, I can't get their famous pancakes to go on my walk (though that would be pretty brilliant if they made that possible), but I get to experience their amazing goodies and not have to deal with obnoxious brunch crowds!
