I came here on a cold day with a couple of my girlfriends. They have a combo deal where it is $4 for 4 small walnut pastry and coffee. I think that's a pretty good deal because coffee around the area is $3 at least. But pay another dollar, you get 4 sweet yummy goodness.
I opted to get 9 of those walnut pastry 😡 and a cafe latte. The latte was pretty good, not too sweet, not too bitter. It was perfectly made for me. The walnut pastry is delicious. They are bite sized and I think it's a good amount for snacking while studying.
There were maybe 2 other groups that were there and they were fairly quiet. Pretty good study space
Their croissant type goldfish pastry is AMAZING – we ordered 2: a nutella filled one, and a red bean one, and went back to order another round because it was SO good! They're made fresh to order using a type of waffle iron, and they're AMAZING! Careful of the hot filling, and enjoy!
I also love their red bean walnut pastries – they remind me of my childhood of living in Korea and getting a bag of them at the rest stops when my family would be driving around on vacations.
Came here late Monday night because I heard they have s great walnut cake. Sadly it was sold out. I guess it's very popular. So instead I went for a shaved ice. My friend and I ordered the mango shaved ice and in my opinion it wasn't as good compared to all the other Korean shaved ice that is available around northern boulevard.
The mango ice tasted very artificial. The mango flavor was one you expect from those artificial juices and the ice was just too sweet. The one thing I did like was the chunks of real mango they placed on the ice. Everything else was just too heavy and sweet.
I would not comeback for their shaved ice but o would come back again just so I can try the walnut cake. Other than that there is nothing special here.
I was pretty impressed. I was getting a little discouraged because the longer I had to wait for my dessert fix, the longer I kept staring at the sample they had next to the cashier that when the dessert actually came, the first thing I said was "ugh, the large is pretty small" although my mind was focused on how delicious it looked. This was my boyfriend and I's first time here and we opted for the green tea bingsoo plus one order of the croissant fish thingy- nut filled (I actually disliked red bean strongly until today, during my visit here)! I guess you could consider this place somewhat life changing? To start off, the green tea bingsoo really looked delicious, as well as very aesthetically pleasing. After snapping some photos, I dug in and upon my first bite- WOW the shaved ice was super creamy, yet fluffy, but still had so much flavor to it. I've tried many shaved ice places but this one definitely takes the crown for being the best. Don't underestimate the size of the large. We were somewhat struggling to finish the large (and we barely ate anything all day). The traditional fish snack (with a modern twist, since it's in croissant form) is not what I expected. It was not as flaky as a croissant but was more like the Korean pastry that is about a foot long and twists gradually and somewhat flaky. Delicious, nevertheless. It is freshly made so you have to wait about 15 minutes for it to be made for you. Will definitely be coming back in the very near future to try the other bingsoos + various flavors of the fish pastry!
Green Tea Bingsoo Large (~$10.00), Nut Filled Taikyaki ($3.50)
Shaved ice here was pretty decent. We got the green tea shaved ice. It was topped with one of their red bean pastry, almonds, walnuts, mochi, red beans, one scoop of green tea ice cream over this milk flavor shaved ice. It was pretty good but I definitely had better shaved ice in Asia and in LA tho.
They also offer plenty of seats and the people behind the counter was also friendly.
I want to come try their mango shave ice in the summer
I came here for the croissant taiyaki and left a little disappointed. All these Yelp pictures made it look super yummy and irresistible but it's mediocre. It was very hard and the filling was minimal. It's a good concept if executed well, maybe I should experiment and make it at home… hahaha. I got the one with red bean filling and to my surprise, it did taste like red bean, I was excited about that. The place was very cute but not too big. When we got there, it wasn't too busy so we found seats immediately. The place started to fill up quick and people were standing around waiting for seats. I do want to come back and try their walnut snacks and shaved ice. I hope they won't disappoint.
We shared an original Coco patbingsoo (shaved ice with red bean and toppings). It had pumpkin seeds, walnuts, rice cakes and red bean. The condensed cream also made it even sweeter if that's your thing.
I was especially surprised at the shaved ice — it was actually the texture of freshly fallen snow! That was the kicker for me. The walnut "cookies" although I'd describe them more as pastries, are great when eaten warm. I was hoping they'd throw a few on top but to no avail, they did not.
Either way, it was tasty but I agree with the other yelpers that they should really have some sort of ticketing system. I also recommend you go earlier as the limited seating goes fast.
3.5 stars
I got the iced coffee and 4 walnut pastries for $3.95 as part of their Combo Menu. I like their walnut pastries, especially when eaten hot and fresh. They're bite-size balls with an actual walnut on the inside! Normally a small bag with 9 pieces is about $4.75, which is not worth it in my opinion. The combo is a good deal!
They also have a coffee/latte combo with the croissant taiyaki for $5-7. I had the red bean croissant. They're shaped like a goldfish with the filling inside the fish. I didn't like it. It was very oily, small, thin, with no flaky or crispy texture. Croissant is the wrong term for this pastry.
