Cocotte
“I enjoyed the butternut squash soup (perfect for a cold day), champignons farçis (stuffed mushrooms with chorizo), and a special pork & potato cocotte.”
“Our favorites, so far, are Cordon Basque, Champignons Farcis and Delicado de Jamon y Questo!”
“It's a lovely little French-ish bistro on a quiet street in Soho, and so understated from the outside it would be easy to walk right on by.”

This Soho gem is truly an in-the-know kind of place. Stop in for brunch and you will inevitably be transported to a French cafe in Paris. The gentleman who mans the espresso machine and serves at the bar is simply charming. He makes the best coffee drinks I have ever had. Just watching the technique he employs to create the picturesque fluffy foam with beautiful rich clumps of cinnamon is art in motion.
I cannot recall his name (for certain he knows who he is if he is reading this review)…but he also made recommendations that were on point- eggs Benedict with homemade hollandaise that will transform your idea of what it really is when done right and urging us to stick with just two (not three or four) ingredients for the omelet. If you listen to him, you will not be disappointed.
We were told that by skipping dessert, in particular the brioche bread pudding, that it was basically a crime but alas-we had no room after the bountiful brunch we had just enjoyed. The place is small and fills up quickly so best to make a reservation if you want a table.
And you know the place is a-okay because you literally can watch the chefs and runners prepare in the kitchen as you make your way to the bathroom. Cleanliness is godliness at this quaint Soho spot and with exquisite food, an intimate European vibe and service that truly cares—cocotte has it all! Cannot wait to return.
Really good. I got their hangar steak (medium rare) with the red wine reduction and it was one of those dishes that you bite into and go "wow, this is fantastic." Also had their duck fat potatoes and a few bites of the paella risotto that was on special as well as the stuffed mushrooms and chorizo. Everything was great. Service was great and the prices were quite reasonable. My one critique (such as it is) is that this is a really tight space. Be prepared to be dining in very close proximity to strangers. For some people, I guess it could be an opportunity to make new friends. Personally, I have no interest in making friends with random strangers, so it is not really ideal, but definitely a small price to pay for really well done food.
Cocotte is a really cute date spot. We had no reservations on a Monday night but was able to get a seat at the bar quickly. It's not a big place but it's so cozy. It will be great to be dine in on an especially windy winter night. Our server really made Cocotte characteristic. He's so energetic and superb at his job. Some people may take his way of talking the wrong way and think he is bossy. When my friend ordered a dish, I pointed straight to the special menu and suggested we make a different choice. He did that twice for the app and main menu. I had no problem with this and I do admit my friend wasn't as assertive either. I'm not sure if our waiter was the owner/manager but he seemed like the only guy taking orders, clearing out the dishes, seating tables-basically run the entire place minus the cooking. I did see a waitress, but this being said, he did an awesome job. The food did take a little bit of time to come out, but I don't think it was because he was the only one running the place in the beginning. The guy does an almost excellent job explaining the specials. I say almost because..he has a European accent (I'm guessing it's French?) and he talks fast too. I couldn't catch every single descriptive word coming out of his mouth. You'll understand what I mean when I mention the name of the dishes. You'll catch the main keywords for sure though, like "duck seared in" blahblah though don't worry. It's better for you to go try the food here yourself, rather than me trying to explain. It's worth checking this place out, and the server will help you through too. We ordered..
App:
Txipirones- baby octopus? sorry I can't give you much details
Champignons Farcis-suffed mushroom with chorizo and garlic cream.
Main:
Chou Farci- pork shoulder and chorizo wrapped in a cabbage
Garbuire-duck with lots of beans
Dessert: Chocolate mousse-sounds so typical but does not taste common at all! very slight crunch from the crust and the mousse part is so delicate!
I personally liked the champignons farcis was better than the special app, txipirones. Chou farci reminded me of a Korean dish so I wasn't blown away on the taste. But if you like the tender pork that falls off easily everytime you pull on the mean with your fork, you'll probably like it. I had high expectations for the Garbuire but I didn't love it. The duck meat itself was so tender and juicy. I loved how it wasn't drenched in some sauce, but there were too many beans for me.
All of the dishes we got was really unique. I never had this kind of French food before so it was an awesome experience. I wasn't super blown away by the taste but maybe it's because I was expecting the "typical" French food. I will definitely come back to try the other stuff. (I'm getting the chocolate torte again). Plus, I liked the waiter's attentiveness and the way he served.
Came here for brunch this past Sunday and was so incredibly happy to not have to wait in a 2 hour line!! My friend recommended this place as a cute little brunch spot and I was excited to try it out.
We ordered:
1. Mushroom Scramble – ordered this on our waitresses recommendation..and it was awesome. The potatoes were perfectly done and the eggs were soft, not watery..and the mushrooms. Ohhhhh the mushrooms..sigh. They were delicious!
2. Bread Pudding – This came in the CUTEST loaf pan i've ever seen. It looked like a tiny le creuset casserole pan. hehehe! But it was the perfect texture, crispy on the outside and made with wonderful bits of tart fruit in it.
The sweet/savory combo were great! Portions are small for the price, but the quality was definitely on point.
The coffee here is pretty strong, so definitely had a good kick to it. I also have to mention that they don't serve bloody mary's here..so stick to mimosas?
Overall, a great pick for a cozy brunch with all your favorite peeps! 🙂
Really really good bomb dot Com came here on a hot date w my better half a couple weeks ago, and I'm happy we chose it. I got the seafood paella on special and it was so good I almost didn't want to share it w my hubby lol..he got the boeuf dish which was melt in your mouth amazing, and we got the duck fat potatoes which were really good but he loved them more strongly than me..and the chorizo stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer so good I would get these again, and raw oysters which were done perfectly. The service was great, the vibe was really nice and the food was fantastic. It's a small spot but I loved it and I'm so glad we came.
Great little wine bar near SOHO shopping, perfect spot to relax after going from store to store. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable staff. Good selections of tasty reds and whites by the glass. Peaceful. Ahhh.
Great little spot in the heart of SoHo turning out some pretty big flavors. The roasted mussels are the way to start here but don't overlook the leeks and foie gras appetizer. The Cocotte burger served on focaccia is nice twist on the classic hamburger.
amazing fresh and flavorful southern french fare in an intimate space – had a decadent hanger steak in a perfect red wine reduction – I would highly recommend – especially good for smaller groups.
