The food here is awesome and tastes fresh and the staff are warm and friendly. We came here for breakfast and both plates were delicious. I got the skirt steak with an egg and I think my wife got pancakes. The prices are just right and the atmosphere is cozy. I hear this place is busy during brunch which I can believe, so I'd recommend coming closer to breakfast like we did. We got right in. We'll definitely be back here again and again.
The customer service here is amazing. I didn't understand what some of the food was on the menu, so the waitress patiently explained it all to me. The atmosphere of the restaurant is kind of loud because it is small and it gets crowded. The seating is rather limited. Other people ended up sitting at the table with me because I sat at a large table. It was the only table left. Some of the seats don't have backs. So if you take off your jacket you really have no place to put it unless you lucky enough to find another seat. I had the Ensalada De La Casa salad with a poached egg with balsamic and lime-cilantro vinaigrette. It was interesting. The flavor combination for the most part was good. It had some food in the salad I have never had before. But I wouldn't choose to have that dish again. Towards the end of the dish I found myself having a hard time finishing it because I didn't like some of the items they put in the salad. My bill with the salad and the Cappuccino I ordered came to a total of $18.51.
I stopped in here with my friend on a Sunday, which just so happened to be Mother's Day because the places we intended to go were packed due to it being the holiday. She said that she'd been here a few times and liked the calm atmosphere. This place is another in a stream of recent to new business slowly filling up the major avenues through Crown Heights. I say that with loathe but also appreciation for business upstarts. It seems as though it'd be a really nice chill spot to sit near a window and get work done of your laptop or iPad etc; the kind of place you see in movies where the lead character goes to write their soon-to-be best selling novel and think about getting their ex-lover back.
This place does however scream gentrification; the type that makes you say, where do all of these people live/come from? I normally don't see them out here. At the same time, I live across the parkway, so maybe I'm the outsider *shrugs*. The staff was pretty responsive, seeing as there were about 3 servers in a cozy dining hall area. There were a couple communal tables for six and then small tables for two and counter in the window. Also there's some cushions in the corner by the window for that faithful work-from-home but actually at your favorite local cafe type.
Nevertheless, I looked forward to some good Latin American cooking. I did the pancakes with chorizo and scrambled eggs with cheese. They aren't really ones for scrambling cheese into eggs. The waitress offered me cheddar which I gladly accepted but the order did not come with cheddar; it was instead some white square chunks of some cheese that i could not quite grasp and that never really melted. Just kind of took it block by block, literally. The pancakes were filling and good enough with the syrup after borrowing a bit of extra from my friend because the pancakes really did soak it up quickly. The chorizo was had a very quick palette experience. It was a quick initial spice and savoriness that quickly fleets until you come to the next bite. The food taste fine, even good in some bites, but it's just not memorable. I hear that the coffee is good but I don't drink it.
I wouldn't be against coming back again, but I just probably wouldn't.
Cute tiny cafe across the street from my new apartment! So excited to come here for más comida.
This place does not have any alcoholic drinks for brunch, so if that's what you want, maybe it's not for you! Their non-alcoholic iced drinks are great though – their hibiscus lemonade was really tart and not at all over sweetened like so many lemonades are.
I got the torta de chorizo with avocado and it was this big hearty sandwich with a spicy salsa and lots and lots of delicious chorizo. It really was an excellent sandwich. My friends got pork hash and buttermilk pancakes, and they were happy campers: the pancakes were fluffy and the pork hash really hit the spot.
Service was fine, and the place can seat a comfortable 15-20 people. Come here for a quick bite!
if you want breakfast, come early! As in 11am early. Around 11:45, it got packed
Brunch options are very large so be prepared! I ordered the tamale and an avocado toast thinking they would both be small. Nope. Avo toast was the size of a pancake, so i ended up putting the avocado on my tamale and together, they were magical
Staff was friendly and never looked stressed despite how full & loud the place got
Great service, nice interior, and okay food. It's what this Brooklyn spot is made of.
This place offers a variety of salads and small plates. When I saw empanadas and tamales on the list, I'm sold! We got the beef empanadas and the pork tamales, and they're pretty good. However, I'd say that they run on the drier side. The empanadas doesn't have as much filling as I would like, and the tamales was rather dry. The filling itself is delicious, and is also mild. I actually prefer this for an early brunch!
The two things that makes this place great is definitely the interior and service. There are plenty of open seating when we were in, and most of the people are working on their laptops. The service is good in that they were quick and very friendly!
Would I come back again? Possibly. But I'll probably skip the food and stick with the coffee/tea to enjoy the nice shop with a book or two.
I found this place a few weeks ago when looking for a new study spot. The coffee is great (and comes in huuuuge cups) and the food is AWESOME. I had the mushroom melt- it's this beautiful mess of cheese, shiitake mushrooms, and chimichurri. SO. GOOD. The girl next to me was eating what looked like scrambled eggs and avocado on a croissant and I honestly contemplated ordering a second meal because of how delicious it looked. The entire menu looks great- looking forward to coming back and trying more!
I came here on a weekday and it was pretty quiet- great place to study for a few hours. Pretty low key and quiet, and they play good music. No outlets though, so if you're using a laptop make sure it's fully charged!
For me this is in a great location. Its a small spot but has large front windows with great light coming in. I went this weekend one of the coldest days and even with the large windows (we sat right next to) it was still warm and cozy. However, with the people coming in and how the floor plan is set up its best for parties of 4 and less.
We tried the empanadas (beef &chicken) both were delicious a little pricey for me $5 ea. but tasty. The breaded chicken and the slow pork sandwich were very good. I saw other items that I will be back to try. This is definitely a good spot for a light Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch. The hibiscus lemonade was on point!!!!
I will be back!!!
