  1. My husband has been looking forward to Colonia Fried Chicken opening up for so long.  I granted his wish and stopped in for takeout.  The menu inside is confusing as previously reviewed.  We got a 10 piece chicken, which comes with 2 sides and biscuits.  My husband sees himself as a connoisseur of fried chicken so his thoughts should be heard, but they do differ from mine so you'll hear both our opinions.

We agreed the biscuits were a disappointment. Basically dinner rolls and hotdog rolls had a love child and this poor excuse for a biscuit entered the world.  M was expecting a buttermilk biscuit like Popeyes or KFC.

The 2 sides we chose were french fries and mashed potatoes. M thought the mashed potatoes were OK, about half the serving of KFC but the gravy and consistency of the potatoes was much better than KFC. I thought they were barely edible because the "gravy" was so gross. It was kinda sweet. Yuck.

We agreed the fries were bad. They were shoestring style, cold, and tough.  Although much less salty than anywhere else.  If they were hot perhaps they would have been much better.  Who knows maybe they don't travel well (the 2 blocks from where we live?).

This is where we differ. M thought the chicken would compare well to KFC original recipe or the fried chicken you can get at NATHANS FAMOUS. M thought the chicken was good, hardly any additional salt, and a fair amount of meat.  I thought the chicken was not good at all. Flavorless and rubbery. It was hard for me to finish one breast. We received 4 Breasts, 2 legs, 4 wings. Looks like M will be eating the rest.  *Update- I tried another piece reheated and took the meat off the bone first to eat. This time it was not as rubbery so maybe I just had a bad piece earlier.*

So, does this compare to KFC or Popeyes, not really, but it's half the price and locally owned.  I can not compare to Cluck U as I haven't had that yet.  I hope some of the negatives work their way out as this new business works through opening growing pains.
