This place was very busy when we arrived. We waited about 15 minutes until we were seated. The restaurant was very small and the staff did a great job of getting people in and out. The food also came out in a timely matter. The menu was filled of interesting dining options with unique names. I had to read all the descriptions for an idea of what I wanted.
I decided on the British Banger ($11.95). This dish was loaded with breakfast items. It was a potato pancake with bangers, ham, bacon, and onions. It was topped with American cheese, tomatoes and eggs. I opted for over-easy eggs. The portion was humongous and a great deal for the price. The potato pancake was a little burnt. The American cheese I thought did not go well with the potato pancake. Everything else about this dish blended well together however. There was just an explosion in the mouth with all the different foods. I rarely say that phrase, but it fits well with this dish.
Will I go back? No doubt, so many options I am interested in!
Holy portions Batman!
30 minute wait on a Sunday morning at 10:30
Small locale, approximately 30 seats in this hidden gem.
I went with fellow yelpers with the Polish platter, 2 tremendous potato pancakes, 3 potato pierogies, and a beautiful pile of grilled sliced kielbasa….outstanding $12.95 and no even I could not finish it.
My daughter wanted a kids pancake with nutella and bananas. I believe it was $6.95
My wife had the deep fried potato and potato/cheese pierogies…..Gorgeous plate and a tremendous value at $8.95. Delicious. The falafel platter with French fries was just ok…
I cannot wait to go back.
Their poached egg platters looked amazing.
Eggs Benedict was fantastic. Nutella pancakes were okay, not enough Nutella for what I was expecting.
As far as breakfast goes I would give this place 4 stars, food is great! But what really kills this place for me is the lack of attention to cleanliness.
Chairs were dirty with unidentified liquids splattered all over them, dust in between easily reachable crevices in the bar stools. Windows and doors had finger prints and finger smudges all over them, floor had visible dirt on it that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days. Sticky Barney colored tablecloths.
I would rather go elsewhere and eat without cringing at the dirtiness.
Excellent, the food is so good here! I couldn't wait to try it after hearing from a few friends about how great it was. I got the Nutella banana pancakes and eggs and bacon. The pancakes were to die for and each pancake is the size of a dinner plate. My daughter got the kids meal which is huge. We could've just split it lol! The eggs were really good, I don't know where they get them from but they taste so fresh and the yolk was so bright. The homefries are deep fried so they are crispy already. Can't wait to go for lunch!
I'd say how big the portions are, but every other review already tells you. Actually, Me saying that IS telling you how big they are.
I could never understand how people eat so much for breakfast. I'm doomed to wait in line when it comes to brunch because I don't get hungry until at least noon no matter how early I wake up. When my wife and I arrived here at 12:30 on a Saturday i knew what we were in for. Wait was about 45 minutes. It didn't help that it was about 10 degree's outside and there is pretty much no standing room inside. 2 family's can uncomfortable crowd each other in the doorway, but that's it. They are on an old school paper and pen system so waiting in the car can get shifty and cause you to lose your spot if they aren't able to flag you down.
I ordered the Eggs Benedict. I got something else, but quickly realized it from the lack of Hollandaise sauce and handed it back to our waitress. Luckily my eggs were still in the window and somebody else hadn't broken my golden yolks yet. The waitress immediately grabbed them for me and I was able to eat at the same time as my wife. She got a mix and match of various breakfast items. Probably Eggs, Home fries and toast. We split 2 gigantic Pancakes as well. They didn't seem to have a combo that suited her so she picked everything ala carte. After a recent run in with some bad Hollandaise I quickly inspected my meal and everything checked out. No broken sauce here. My eggs were poached perfectly and almost every other item came out hot and cooked as expected. The exception being the home fries. This alone is costing them a full star. If you're a breakfast/brunch place your potatoes have to be on point. I appreciate that they gave me what seemed like at least 2 full potatoes, but they were under cooked and cut into massive pieces. Not a minute or two under cooked either. I'm talking about 5+ minutes under. This would not be a problem with a much smaller chop. Wife agreed and next time we'll ask for them well done or chopped smaller. I'll make it the waitress' choice.
On a side note I'd like to mention how crazy the meal that was accidentally brought to me was. From my quick glance I believe it was a potato latke the size of the entire plate (Had to be 12''-14'' plate) on the bottom. Unfortunately, it looked extremely greasy. That may have been though from what I assume had to be at least 1/2 lbs. of sausage/Kielbasa sliced over top of it. Did I mention that there was definitely several eggs as well as I believe several Perogies on top. This is ridiculous and my concern for the health of the person who ordered that grows with every word I type.
I'll be back, but definitely not before noon.
What A Find… We were in the area visiting and happen to stumble upon this little joint, and glad we were so much so that we now drive 30 min to eat here. This is a family owned little restaurant with about 10 table, and a NYC apt sized kitchen but BOY can they whip out some top notch food.
We went for the much raved and suggested British Banger Mash, The Lumberjack along with pancakes and pirogies, too much, nhaa I don't think, then comes out the food and I Think So Too much. Lets get the irrelevant items out of the way
1. Lumberjack was meh nothing to complaint but nothing to praise either.
2. pirogies, they being sort of house speciality I expected em to blow my mind off but that did not happen, at least not yet
3. Pancake now there are some good pancakes, can give any pancake house run of the money.
So that leaves us with the Star of Night, be prepared to blown away mesmerized blah blah blah. First the size easily comparable to a new born. Then the food… Aaahhh I still dream of it.
The crunchy potato pancake stuffed to gills with omelet sausages bacon home fries topped with eggs and cheese god dis i just die and go to food heaven… Well back to reality hope you got the point. You walk out of there with out having the British Banger, basically you going to hell.
British Banger Mash remember the name.
Before this review begins, if there is one word to describe this restaurant which is, "QUANTITY." Now let's begin.
This is tiny breakfast establishment, give a mighty meal to handle any customer who is ready to increase their pant size. I went here with my family and boy we had a lot of left overs. The order I could remember were the mi amor and my dish which was the polish sampler. The polish sampler has 3 potato pancakes , 3 perogies, and kielbasa with a side of sour cream, apple sauce, and tomatoes. The potato pancake and perogies were delightful and very hardy and the kielbasa was nicely fried and was sinfully delicious. Personally I enjoy the mi amor more compare to the polish sampler. It was more balance of taste and texture compare to the sampler, where it was very starchy and greasing. It was still good, but I wish there was something to balance out the fry food.
Totally worth the wait, which was actually not even that bad. We came for brunch on the weekend and only had to wait 25 mins. We shared the Polish pierogies sampler (potato pancakes, and kielbasa). It was great comfort food. You can tell it's made with a crazy amount of love and care. The potato pancakes were so thick and soft inside but perfectly crispy on the outside. Probably could have just ordered that and left full (this was a huge display of food) but of course we each had to order our own meal. How could we not?! I got the caramel apple French toast. It was made with doughy, delicious challah. Omg can you say amazing?!? I ate so much that I had to take a nap to recover.
