Three stars for the friendly staff and their muffins are pretty tasty.
If your coming in to sit for an hour on your computer you'll get very uncomfortable all their chairs and benches are made of wood with no cushion to keep your ass comfortable lol.
For 20 minutes it would do the trick the wooden chairs won't bother you as much.
This staff is pretty inefficient. Smoked salmon bagel was $7.50. Latte was $3.50. The tables and chairs are dirty and sticky. There's really no reason to come here.
So this place probably has some of the best red velvet around but the customer service is unpredictable at this particular location. I have walked in here when they were in the middle of cleaning with bleach and the smell was horrific. Why would anyone bleach and sell coffee at the same time? So I only go to this Cortelyou location when I absolutely have no choice.
Good place to grab a quick coffee and muffins. The staff is always super helpful. They are nice and not over the top friendly.
Ahh yes the infamous Connecticut Muffin. This is a nice little neighborhood cafe. I am still trying to break out of my typical bodega run for breakfast sandwiches (it's hard though, I'm a New Yorker what can I say?) so I came here for a sandwich with tea. The menu is pretty standard for cafes; I got eggs and tomatoes on a baguette for $4 and a yummy cup of African Autumn tea. I had no idea what it was so the cashier let me smell it so I can figure out what to put in my tea lol. This spot has such unique flavors
So I may have found a new coffee shop, as I'm always on Cortelyou.
Connecticut Muffin is the perfect venue in the bustle of all the new Cortelyou additions. Even though they are a chain store I still feel like they are better quality than Dunkin or Starbucks.
I order an iced/hot coffee daily. The coffee is perfectly bold, strong and rather tasty. It is also priced very reasonable. I've ordered sandwiches a couple of times and I feel like their rolls/spreads/veggies are definitely better quality. The tuna sandwich is great and so is the egg sandwich. I haven't tasted their muffins so I can not write about those, but they look fresh.
I also like that this location has space and tables so if you want to grab a coffee and work on your laptop or read a book you can do it in peace over here.
I will say that although customer service is usually great, with employees being friendly and fast there is one that I try to avoid. I feel like a shot of espresso prior to their shift may change the attitude.
Overall, if you want high quality coffee for a good price in this neighborhood, this is the place to go.
Stumbled upon this place after brunch. Nice large spot for your coffee and muffins. The coffee is standard but the standout are the muffins. Delicious and filling. Love the morning glory muffin that is filled with wonderful ingredients. Carrots, coconut, and nuts. Also the cranberry yogurt muffins were good as well. Soft and moist inside with a nice crunchy muffin top. Nice service and a refreshing coffee. Plenty of space to sit down to hang out and use the wifi while sipping coffee and nibbling on your muffin.
Ok if you don't have very specific food requirements. They have free wifi and it's pretty much empty/quiet so it's a good work space but none of the baked goods are gluten free.
There's also a bench right outside of the store that is perfect for chilling on during warmer weather whether or not you buy something from inside the store.
I have never had a bad experience with the customer service here as others have noted in their reviews (I guess because I haven't actually gotten anything but tea and their soups – and you can't really mess that up), but there are typically only one or two people behind the counter and they don't seem to be in a huge rush to move guests along expeditiously.
Round up – clean store, always smells good and tempting (that can be a good or a bad thing depending on if you are trying to avoid sweets), priced affordably, free internet, good for using as a work space – never felt rushed to leave with my one cup of tea.
