After a recent ceremony for a family member at the Mount Olivet Cemetery close by we had a family and friends luncheon at Connolly's.
It's basically a combination sports bar and restaurant. Plenty of seating around the main room bar area, and another room to the side with booths and a dining area for larger groups such as we had. Even a room for parties and events. Plenty of flat screens all around the bar. A bright and airy outdoor patio area. If living in Maspeth this seems like a destination bar to head to on weekends to watch a game or for Sunday football. Kind of an older crowd congregates here from what I gather judging by the clientele hanging by the bar watching ESPN. Not much elsewheres to go in Maspeth anyway.
I wasn't too hungry and decided to just have a salad. Ordered the Left Coast Salad – mixed greens, apples, raisins, candied pecans, sun-dried cranberries, goat cheese, and roasted shallot vinaigrette with some added grilled chicken on top. Just perfect for the mood I was in. Simple, tasty, and not too filling with a good mix of nuts and fruits. A few of us also had the fish and chips and they said it was delicious. The warm soda bread basket placed on the table was a treat.
Overall, the place is clean with a friendly vibe and decor. Good food and reasonable prices. Decent beer selection. Really nice service too.
This place has been a nice bar ever since it opened so I choose it to have my daughters baptism party. I was very impressed at everything from the food, the staff and the large room to hold such an event. Everything was perfect! I'm so glad my wife and I choose this place for this event. I had no complaints about anything at this place
I would give like a 3.5+ in the world of sports bar pubs, it was pretty good.
Up this way for a conference and stumbled upon Connolly's Corner. It's your normal local sports bar/pub and it was just what we needed. It was really chill sitting at the bar, and we hit it on Wine down Wednesdays…which is 1/2 priced bottles of wine, BAM! Norman bar tender was funny and really nice and gave us great service. The other patrons in the bar were also very friendly and nice, which you don't always find.
The food was standard bar food, my friends salad came out huge and actually looking amazing! I got the mussels, fries, and coleslaw and the mussels were delicious!! The fries and coleslaw were ok but not bad.
I came here with my extended family last weekend and had a very good meal. The fish and chips (made with cod) was delicious and piping hot. The only problem I had was with the drinks. I ordered an Old fashioned and unfortunately they are one of the places that pours soda water in it and dilute out the whiskey. I sent my drink back and asked for a straight Maker's Mark. She asked me if i wanted it "Neat" (i.e. no ice) and i said "yes." It came back to me as a whiskey with a load of ice chips in it. I gave up at that point and just drank the whiskey.
I would come back for the food but not to have a drink.
Whenever were in the mood for a great steak and burger with a glass or two of wine and or other spirits we head on over to Connolly's where they have a very laid-back dining vibe and a very boisterous, outgoing and upbeat Sports-bar crowd in which the volume's can get to be a bit much for those of us only interested in wining & dining. Now we don't ever actually sit at the bar because this just isn't my thing here we always get a seat at the dining booths but more preferable seating is in the newly renovated section of Connolly's which has a lot more privacy and comfortable hearing and speaking volumes where both you and your company can better enjoy your dining experience. That all having been said we had a bit of a wait by about 15 to 20 minutes on this last visit here which wasn't to bad but worth waiting for a seat on the other side I might add plus the manager Bridgette was hands on with all of the dining guests including both my friend and I this evening every step of the way from seating, to dining and departing that's something you don't see quite often. We found this made for an even better dining experience with smiling managers like Bridgette making you feel like your right at home to waitresses who are also friendly and knowledgeable about the current menu for the day with recommendations depending on your taste, we only had Steak on our mind's this day so that was easy but I thought this was worth noting.
So we started out with our free yelp check in drinks, a glass of Vino and a nice cold bottle of Blue Moon Brew for my friend – Thank You!
Appetizers
* Creamy Spinach & Artichoke Dip with Nachos – Yummy, this was so, so good and nicely portion sized for sharing and caring.
* Potato Croquettes – Piping hot with small bites of Ham pieces throughout – very tasty.
Chow Down time – we both ordered the same dinner and on this night the special that caught our eye and had us salivating was the 24oz Cowboy Steak that came with a side of spinach and garlic Mash potatoes and a small side of veggies, ordered medium well so as to not dry out the steak. The steak was cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned, juicy and big enough that I had to take part of the steak home to devour at a later time.
Parking over here can be a bit hard to find during the evening even though Connolly's offers free parking for their customers across the street, its a small space and not monitored, so people tend to park haphazardly and block you in, I would suggest parking on the neighboring streets if you don't want to deal with parking woes when its time for you to go.
Great place for everyone, people who want great food at fair prices and guys and gals who wants the Sports bar vibe life can have it all right here at Connolly's.
Another favorite place to add into to my neighboring rotations for Queens.
Solid local bar and restaurant. I usually have the specials when I have dinner here and I have not been disappointed once. Good selection of tap beers. Bartenders are friendly and efficient. The back patio is a nice place for a drink on a summer evening.
love the chicken wings!
outdoor garden area is a plus- great for enjoying a beer/drink on a sunny afternoon.
