  1. CoolVines has two other locations- one in Princeton and the other in Westfield. That tells me a few things about this trendy wine shop.

    1. This is a trendy wine shop
    2. $$$$$. Get yo' wallet out.
    3. Jersey City is transforming into Yuppie central.
    4. I'm okay with that
    5. I miss Trader Joes Wine shop

Anyhoo, although CoolVines is a bit pretentious and "shi shi" I don't hate it. The shop itself is adorable and most certainly receives an A for presentation and selection. Bottles on bottles and you could go mad figuring out what to get. They even have funky gift ideas and I'd be lying if I said that I didn't snicker when I saw the suntan lotion wine flask. There are also tastings here a few times a week. Noted.

Where this quaint wine shop went wrong was in the prices. It's not CoolVines fault that I don't want to fork over 25 dollars for a bottle of vino, I'm just not that big of a wino and am perfectly okay with some 3 buck TJ chuck or an 8 dollar bottle of Yellowtail.

What I'll be back in for (besides free tastings) is the brew. They've got a mighty fine selection of craft bottles and my entire face lit up when I saw that they had Duclaw Sweet Baby Jesus peanut butter and chocolate beer. Ohhhh yaaaasss. Maybe I'll be back in for that flask too…

  2. If you're in Jersey City and you're desperately searching for some alcohol to purchase for a BYOB BBQ, then Cool Vines is where you should go!  There is an awesome selection of beers and wines, but be warned you won't find any basic beers here.  Only the good stuff.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they gave us great suggestions based upon our BBQ menu!

  3. I doubt I'd purchase wine from here but there craft beer section and selection is what it's all about.

I'm not a beer fan but my guy goes gaga over any IPA so when I was looking for a particular new released collab, I was stoked somewhere near home had it. So thumbs up to Cool Vines for being on the super current when it comes to new craft releases.

The gal working was super polite and welcoming. When I walked in she was on the phone and actually ended her call saying she had a customer and that she would phone back later. I thought that was very polite.

She also mentioned to me their beer and wine tastings which is pretty cool and will probably partake in one or two or many in the future.

  4. Another good spot in JC to stop and pick up a six or bottle of wine when hitting the BYOBs. Prices are reasonable and selection is good.

  5. Very helpful, friendly and knowledgable staff! Great selection, descriptions and prices. Love the cheese and meat selection too. The staff is great with recommendations depending on your palate or meal. And they always have new selections. I cannot wait until they move across the street into their new, larger space! That will mean a larger cider selection  🙂

They have beer, wine, cider and spirits for every price range. Have a fridge for some selections if you wish to purchase them already chilled and they also have a chilling machine that looks like a water tower without the huge bottle on top. You can chill your bottle(s) while you wait. Such a great idea.

They have tastings and discounts when you purchase what you taste. And Doggie treats for your fur babies too!

  6. I really like cool vines.  It has become a ritual for me to stop here for a tasting and a bottle before any byob dinners in JC.  My lady makes fun of me mercilessly for it.

This place has a boutique feel especially when it comes to beers.  Really not a bad beer in the place.  While pricey, some of their bottles include rare bombers of the sour persuasion that you really can't find many places.  They have affordable sour options as well and always have some interested stouts and hoppy beers depending on your mood.  Their wine selection is great and their wine tastings are delicious, I just have not made it to any beer tastings yet.  This is one of my latest life regrets.  Also, double bonus – if you want a bottle of beer or wine chilled on the spot, they have a speed chiller.  Best thing to do is engage in a tasting while you wait 3 minutes for your bottle to chill.  Will definitely be back and look forward to enduring additional ridicule from my loved ones for my obsession.

  7. Really nice place. It stands out from the outside and it's very enticing. The white exterior and the "cool vines" logo both look refreshing My bf and I were looking to buy wine to make Sangria. We knew we would be paying a premium at a place like this, but we walked in anyway. The place is a lot smaller than I expected, but they have a great selection. They mostly have wine, but there's some beer in the back as well. The prices are actually pretty decent. I thought they would be more pricey, but you can get a solid bottle of wine for $20. Overall, great place and I'll definitely be back!

  8. I'm so glad this place opened up! It's much better than Jersey Wines – which for years was the best game in town. I'm very selective about my wine and these guys just get it. They're super friendly and always remember me. They've also offered suggestions that are so on point. I wish they were closer to my apartment for easy, last minute access, but totally worth the time it takes to walk there. Despite being a small boutique-y shop, they have just the right selection….nothing lacking!
