Copperhill

“Devil's on horseback, skate fish, bone marrow and wagyu beef, all delicious.”

“The "Devils on Horseback" (dates stuffed with bleu cheese and wrapped in bacon) are an amazing starter, as is the Short Rib Poutine.”

“My whipped ricotta/fig/ham app and my wife's devils' on horseback app were both delicious and generous.”

  1. Feels like Tanglewood Berkshires right here on LI.
Elegant understated country modern decor, loads of space, beautiful lighting with faux gas lights and real candles, well plated dishes and graciously attired waitstaff transports you to just that festive atmosphere of elegant engagement.
Although we found the dishes to be overly salted, JJ our garçon relayed it to the chef and Mike, the gracious GM offered us compensation with another choice or dessert. This was a lovely gesture that speaks volumes about the service.
We declined his offer but the intention was worth it.
An extensive wine list and cocktail option are delightful and the bar itself is a lovely way to strike up a chat before your meal.
We made reservations through open table and somehow I got doubled booked so they even phoned me to tell me they would have to cancel. When I told Mike we were there enjoying the beautiful space he took the time to stop by for a chat.
I love this new addition to the area and look forward to their events and future dining here.

  2. Ordered: Short rib poutine, Ricotta cavatelli, and Pumpkin pie tart

Pros– The complimentary rolls were the freshest bread I've ever had. It came with a lovely thyme butter. The short rib poutine was hearty and packed with flavor (and a great price…about $10 for a big portion). The cavatelli dish had fresh ingredients which were well balanced–celery root, chard, and lamb.

Cons–The pumpkin pie tart was typical pumpkin pie but the price ($10) was a bit much for the small serving.

  3. Good times!

This review is based on a private event. Copperhill is the reincarnation of the former LaMarmite with a whole new style and a whole new menu. The ambiance of the restaurant is very inviting, I really like the wide open spaces but I can imagine it could get noisy when the restaurant fills up. I was there for a private function on a Tuesday night. The place was slow and relatively quiet. My friends and I went to the bar area to wait for the rest of our party to arrive. Jenna was our bartender and was very attentive to everyone in our group. She made sure everyone was well taken care of. The only downside we found at the bar was the selection of beers. They tend to cater to the craft beer crowd so the staples of Bud and Coors were nowhere to be found. No complaints on the craft beer selections for the menu, I was very pleased to see Ommegang Brewery selections on the menu, it's one of my personal favorites.

As we sat at the bar, wait staff circulated among us with appetizers, pigs in a blanket, bacon wrapped scallops, mac-n-cheese cups, and crab cakes. All absolutely delicious. Great flavors, always hot out of the kitchen. I was a really great experience just hanging at the bar enjoying a cocktail or two and enjoying a non-stop parade of appetizers. Very nicely done.

Eventually we all moved into the separate room that was setup for our function in the back of the restaurant. Our room was arranged with two large square tables. I like the layout, it made it easy to carry on conversations across the table. Each table had a number of appetizers prepositioned on the table. Our group had Devils on Horseback (sorry I can't help you with this one, it was good but I be damned if I know what was in it), fresh bratwurst with mustard (a personal favorite for me), and short rib poutine. I am a huge fan of poutine, having traveled much of Canada to locate some I the best poutine I've ever had. That being said, the poutine at Copperhill was a little lacking, there was plenty of fries, plenty of short rib meat, and an ample amount of gravy, what was missing or in really small proportions was the cheese curds, the staple of any poutine dish.

For my starter dish I ordered the sea scallop with pork belly, apple and celery root. Excellent choice highly recommended. For my main course, as if I wasn't already full, I ordered the BBQ pork Short Ribs with celery root and pretzel spaetzle (say that 3 times fast!) Delicious, and very filling.

I did leave just enough room to try the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. I was a little disappointed by the selections of the dessert menu. The choices were exotic but I really missed seeing a few basics.

All in all my group had a great experience at Copperhill. I would definitely recommend you give it a try if you're in the area.
